After 14 rounds of action, we now have a new leader in the race to finish as the top goalscorer in Ligue 1 this season.
With Kylian Mbappe no longer around to hoover up the prize on an annual basis, let's take a look at who the current frontrunners are to finish as the leading marksman in the French top-flight this term.
Best Ligue 1 top scorer odds
Jonathan David – 7/4
Jonathan David is the new 7/4 joint favourite to finish as the top goalscorer in Ligue 1 this season. The Lille forward added another two goals to his tally with a brace against Brest last time out. He now has four goals across his last two Ligue 1 matches, meaning he now leads the scoring charts with 11 strikes.
The Canadian ace has also notched four times across Lille’s last four Champions League games, the most recent of which was against Juventus on matchday four. Now that the Lille talisman has his nose in front in the race to be top goalscorer, he could take some stopping.
Bradley Barcola 5/2
Bradley Barcola has been leapfrogged by the aforementioned Jonathan David at the top of the Ligue 1 goalscoring charts. The PSG ace remains on 10 strikes after blanking in each of his last three Ligue 1 outings. With PSG’ likely to prioritise salvaging their Champions League campaign over the next six weeks or so, there is plenty of scope for Barcola's scoring drought to continue in Ligue 1.
Mason Greenwood – 5/2
Mason Greenwood has rediscovered his shooting boots for Marseille in recent weeks. After failing to score in four successive matches, Greenwood ended his mini goal drought by making the net bulge against Montpellier on matchday eight. The former Manchester United man has since scored against Nantes, Auxerre, Monaco and St Etienne, meaning he now has 10 Ligue 1 strikes to his name this term. Greenwood has been cut into joint second favourite at 5/2 to finish as the division’s top scorer.
Evann Guessand – 20/1
Evann Guessand gatecrashed the Ligue 1 top goalscorer conversation last month but the goals have since dried up for the Nice forward. The Ivory Coast international has struck six times in the French top-flight this term, however he has failed to fire in his previous four appearances.
Now that he has fallen further behind in the top scorer charts, Guessand makes little appeal, even at a big price.
Our Ligue 1 top scorer prediction
Given the current lay of the land in the Ligue 1 goalscoring charts, Mason Greenwood represents the best value at 5/2. The Marseille forward has netted five times across his last seven appearances and is now just one strike behind the league’s leading marksman Jonathan David. With three of Marseille’s next four Ligue 1 games at home, Greenwood could seize the initiative in the race for top scorer honours.
