Last Player Standing is a betting competition where a group of people each put in a stake and predict one team to win in a competition each week.
If that team wins, they progress into the next round, if they draw or lose, they are eliminated.
Each team can only be picked once throughout the game; eg, if you pick Liverpool to win in week one, you cannot pick them again during that edition of Last Player Standing.
The goal is to be the final player left at the end of it all. The winner takes the full pot.
This weekend, Arsenal will look to strengthen their position at the top of the Premier League with a home game with Sunderland, Manchester City will look to try keep pace with the Gunners as they travel to Anfield to take on Liverpool on Super Sunday, whilst there are a couple of massive six-pointers at Elland Road and Turf Moor.
This week’s best Last Player Standing tip: Arsenal
It comes as no surprise that the standout pick for this weekend is Arsenal, as they welcome newly-promoted Sunderland to the Emirates on Saturday afternoon.
Mikel Arteta’s men put a halt to their three-game winless run in the Premier League in emphatic fashion last weekend, as they thrashed Leeds United 4-0 at Elland Road to move six points clear at the top of the Premier League table.
The Gunners have won nine of their 12 Premier League clashes at the Emirates this term (W9-D2-L1) – only dropping points against Manchester City (2nd), Manchester United (4th) and Liverpool (6th).
Sunderland preserved their unbeaten run at the Stadium of Light since their long-awaited return to the Premier League with a 3-0 win over struggling Burnley on Monday night, but Regis Le Bris’ men are winless in each of their last seven away matches (W0-D3-L4), scoring just three goals in that spell.
Arsenal have upcoming matches against London rivals Spurs and Chelsea, and away at in-form Brentford next time out, so this weekend could be a good time to use the Gunners.
MFT’s selection: Arsenal
I was tempted to go with West Ham away to Burnley, but I’m happy just to ease myself in and back the Gunners to defeat Sunderland this weekend.
Whilst I would’ve preferred to avoid taking them this early in the game, Arsenal have a tricky run of fixtures ahead of them after this weekend, so I’m more than happy to back Mikel Arteta’s men to win against poor-travelling Sunderland at the Emirates on Saturday afternoon.
