Cornish Comedy was going okay in his race until he made a mistake.
He was strong in the market and went off more than half the price when tipped up.
After that mistake, he made many in a row. His confidence was clearly shot, and he threw in the towel.
At least Koenigsstern didn't manage to win, as that was going to be a double whammy with him being tipped up last time out.
New Order 9/1 (1pt) – Cheltenham 1.25
This 3m 2f handicap chase is an interesting race. Does He Know would be tough to beat if he were as good as he was a couple of years ago. There is also an Irish runner, who could be anything for a new trainer.
Herekles Westwood is a solid handicapper over this distance, and could pick up the pieces if nothing progresses. I wanted to take a chance on the bottom weight, New Order.
At first glance, his form doesn't look the flashiest, but I don't think it's that bad. The winner was a solid PTP horse, who was always going to be a solid chaser. The third was sixth at Cheltenham last March behind some well handicapped horses like Resplendent Grey, Rock My Way and Haiti Couleurs. The fourth has since come out and finished second in a Class 2.
The trip is an unknown for New Order, but based on how he ran last time out, he could get away with it. His jumping wasn't fantastic, but I think returning to a left-handed track will benefit him massively.
He would go left before jumping every fence, giving him a big disadvantage by losing ground, but also not allowing him to get his feet right before the fence.
Just Over Land 11/2 (1pt) – Cheltenham 2.00
I have started to try and back the in form horses, and stop being sucked in by horses who are on attractive handicap marks on older pieces of form.
It was hard for me to ignore Il Ridoto in this race, as with the 7lb claimer in the saddle, he is on a very good mark. He runs in all of these competitive Cheltenham handicaps, and I think he could go well. The main problem is that he has run two stinkers. It could be foolish backing Just Over Land, who is massively up in grade, but Sam Thomas knows what he is doing.
Just Over Land has been a selection on his last two starts, and he has managed to win on both occasions. He was far too keen on that race, but he managed to get the job done over a well-fancied horse.
This pace looks to have a lot of pace, and that should be ideal for Just Over Land to settle. If he does settle, I think he has the minerals to get involved and overcome this better quality race.
Game Colours 10/3 (1pt) – Windsor 12.59
I'm a believer in Bobbi With An I, but she is very similar to a horse I tipped up recently, and I think she is a horse that looks like she will soon, but never manages it.
Because of that, I am chancing Game Colours again after I tipped her up in a competitive Class 2 Mares race at Cheltenham.
She tackled this longer trip for the first time last time out and looked like she was perfectly fine with it. She came into contention, but found a couple too good. In hindsight, it's not a surprise that she found the winner to be too strong, as she had previously won the race and was on a decent handicap mark.
She lost nothing in defeat at Cheltenham and should find this race an easier assignment, despite bumping into some horses sliding down the handicap.
Not For Passin 9/4 (2pt) – Catterick 1.30
I highly doubt we'll get amazing odds on Not For Passin, as this isn't a particularly strong race, and Not For Passin was strong in the market on his debut.
Robbie Llewellyn's runner fell on hurdling debut, but nothing really went to plan. He was far too keen in the early stages, and then ended up in disaster when his horse fell. However, the fact that he was as strong as he was in the market suggests he was showing a lot more at home.
This is a rare runner at Catterick for the Welsh-based trainer, and with this being the only horse at the venue and sole ride for Liam Harrison, they must be confident of leaving with a win.
Have Secret and William Walton bring solid flat form to the table, but we often see the horses with proper jumps pedigree surpass those with flat ability.
