Datsalrightcharlie didn't jump good enough to win at Huntingdon, and that's the name of the game.
It's always a risk backing a horse on their chasing debut, but it can often work a treat. Horses can be on good handicap marks, especially when they are fast-tracked to fences, and I think this lad is in that category. The problem with him is that he can't jump a fence on a good stride.
For 80% of his jumps, he looked very novicey. When the race heated up, that was when his best jumps came to the table. He was shattered towards the end, and that's due to him not being a natural and exerting more energy than he should have.
Rumoursareflying 3/1 (1pt) – Ludlow 3.50
With a strong pace expected in this four-runner field at Ludlow, I thought that Rumoursareflying would be the one to be suited best.
Supreme George likes to go forward at a fast pace, and Uncle Phil falls into that category as well. If they take each other on, it will set it up for a horse like Rumoursareflying, who will likely sit off the pace and pick up the pieces late on. If the top weight allows Supreme George to go from the front on his own, I think that it'll still be a solid pace, and I think that horse might be in the grips of the handicapper now.
Uncle Phil and Tax For Max haven't set the world on fire since leaving Willie Mullins's yard for their new British stables, so it looked set up for Pam Sly's eight-year-old to get another course and distance win.
I don't think my selection is well handicapped, but I thought the same about William Cody (same yard), who ran the other day, losing the Rath Gaul Hill. That horse nearly won, and Pam Sly has hit the crossbar a few times in recent days, so there's every chance that there's still a little bit of improvement to come from this horse.
Rumoursareflying will enjoy the drying ground and have already won for Paul O'Brien, so not having Jack Andrews in the saddle isn't a huge negative.
