Sean Bowen might have given Wade Out the ride of the season, and we're only in November.

Adjectives can't describe how good a jockey this lad is.

I know I've been blowing smoke up his backside in recent months, but Sean Bowen is different gravy to the rest of his mediocre colleagues. How he has managed to win on Wade Out is nothing short of sensational.

The horse didn't jump one fence on a good stride or in good fashion. However, Sean kept believing in the horse. Turning for home, he was a couple of lengths down, and then I knew we were going to win.

He's the best in the business, and it's not even close.

I can't comment on the other runner on the day as I missed the off-time, and I couldn't even find a replay. He was backed into 6/4F and finished third, which is a shame considering there was a lot of money for him.

Jubilee Express 11/2 (1pt) – Cheltenham 1.10

I won't be putting too much money on Jubilee Express, even though I fancy his chances quite a bit. That is due to the race being for amateur jockeys.

I think the horse will relish the ground and trip, like we saw from him last year over fences.

He is technically 1lb better off than when he was second in a Grade 3 chase over 3m 6f on soft ground at Haydock. If he can run to that level, he should be going very close at the very minimum.

Sam Thomas is my favourite trainer over the jumps, and I've been singing his praises for at least the last twelve months. He is in tremendous form, and he can get them ready first time out, so I'm expecting a big run.

If we had a more recognisable amateur on board, maybe I'd go in with a larger stake. I don't know anything about Mr Harvey Barfoot-Saunt, so on that basis, it's just a 1pt win selection.

Vincenzo 5/1 (1pt) – Cheltenham 2.20

For the second selection for Saturday, I've gone with another Sam Thomas trained runner.

This race is a competitive race, but not as competitive as usual, in my opinion. These Paddy Power Gold Cup handicaps are usually full of horses who could win it, ranging from the favourite all the way to the outsiders, but I'm not seeing it that way this year.

The weather is going to play a big part, and Vicenzo was the one who stood out like a horse that could improve further this year as a second-season chaser.

He made good progress last year, winning a couple of chases and finishing as the runner-up on a couple of runs. His form isn't outstanding, but he is very unexposed at this trip on soft ground, and as I mentioned before, Sam works wonders with these types of horses.

Bowens ride on Wade Out was something else. A lot of jockeys would just have given up. It was reminiscent of McCoys ride on Witichta Lineman at the festival years ago. Pure grit and determination.
A case of the difference a great jockey can make compared to a good one.
