A mixture of results yesterday, with a winner and a placed horse who should have probably gone closer with a better ride. The winner was extremely well backed, from 11/4 to EVS, and truly obliged with a strong staying performance. Charlie Deutsch got the tactics wrong in the bumper in my opinion. That horse is a much stronger stayer than a 2m, so the crawl he set was never going to suit, and that proved to be correct when he stayed on again after looking outpaced.

Micky Hammond isn't the most trustworthy trainer in the game, and it's hard to predict when his horses are going to turn up, but at the odds I think his horse, SHAWS BRIDGE is worth a small bet.
This novice chaser should be better than a mark of 104 based on his pedigree. He is related to some very classy horses, such as, Windsor Avenue (currently rated 151 over fences), Ravenhill Road (currently rated 136, was as high as 138), Malone Road (was an exciting horse before his setbacks, RPR of 127 in his last bumper, and looked a good novice hurdler). He is a full brother to the latter named horse, so there is no doubt about the ground for tomorrow which should be soft, as Malone Road handled that ground, and Shaws Bridge has ran well on it before.
Shaws Bridge has only ran once over fences before, and it wasn't great by any means, but it wasn't the worse. It definitely seemed a run to blow away the cobwebs to some extent and more of a public schooling. He was positioned in the rear, and never really put in the race. He's been off the track since, which is a slight concern, but he makes a return in a race which is definitely winnable. He has been dropped 3lbs for that recent run, and gets 7lb removed from Emma Smith-Chaston's claim, which takes him down to a mark of 97, which is the mark he won on over hurdles in April last year. With time he will be a better chaser than a hurdler, like his pedigree suggests, hopefully today is the day he puts his best foot forward.
I think Can You Call is the one they have to beat, as he'll handle the ground and is the class horse in the race. He will have to put in a big race to win this off top weight on ground that should be testing, so I think can be avoided. Just Call Me Al will more than likely be prominent in the market, but his best form has come on good ground, so they would not be wanting the ground to get testing.
