Cairnzy will be covering Wednesdays racing. Rizz will return as normal tomorrow evening with Thursdays card.
I messaged Rizz this evening and offered to cover Wednesdays racing as I had the night free. Fingers crossed I can pop up with a winner for us all.
Rizz found himself on the wrong end of Finlaggan. I backed the horse myself on the thread on his previous run, where again he was fancied in the market. When I tipped him up at Ripon he disappointed, and similar to Rizz, I thought a return to Pontefract could see him in the winners enclosure.
It was a weak race, and I couldn’t really see any excuses for the horse when I watched the race live. He was well positioned and Danny Tudhope who isn’t my favorite jockey either, did nothing wrong in my opinion. The horse simply found nothing in the business end and was a well beat fourth in the end.
Wen Moon 9/4 – Ripon 8.12
My main fancy on Wednesday comes in the shape of the Ben Haslam trained Wen Moon, who if I’m remembering correctly, is a previous selection on this thread for either myself or Rizz or potentially both of us.
I think the chances of my selection winning are very dependent on whether the rain falls, but if going off three sources I looked at online, Ripon is indeed expecting a decent bit of rain throughout Wednesday. My selection runs quite late in the evening, so I’m praying the race lands and the ground becomes a bit more on the softer side of things.
My selection made his seasonal reappearance at this track back in April in a large field Class 4 Handicap contest. He didn’t fire at all that day but given he was poorly drawn and making his seasonal return, I was more than happy to draw a line through that effort. Wen Moon then took a significant step forward last time out at Carlisle, which saw Ben Haslam's charge finish in third place. I think if the rain lands and he builds again on his previous outing, then he must arrive here with strong claims.
Aix La Chapelle 4/1 – Curragh 5.40
I don’t have a whole lot to go on in terms of form in this race and nine times out of ten I’d tend not to get involved at all in a race of this nature.
With that said, at the prices I thought you had to give Aiden O'Brien's supposed second string horse a chance in the race. We’ve seen Wayne Lordan hit the winning line ahead of Ryan Moore on numerous occasions and I just thought this was potentially the type of race he could do it once more. Ryan has opted for Giant Sequoia and the market price at present of 5/6 would suggest he’s showing enough at home to be worthy of being as short as he is.
Both horses are beautifully bred, Giant Sequoia is a third foal by Frankel while my selection is closely related to Tenebrism, a previous Group 1 winner, while also being a half brother to a recent Classic winner in Henri Mattise.
