Rizzel has left Cairnzy in charge of the Lucky 15 bets this weekend. Hopefully, he can find some winning selections for us all!

Firstly, I would like to wish you all a Happy New Year! I hope 2026 brings you all health and happiness, but most importantly, a few nice winners along the way!

 Charlie Mason 5/4 – Chelmsford 12.42

Although a short price and carrying top weight, I think Charlie Mason will take all the beating in what looks like a pretty weak race.

My selection has been running well of late in much stronger races than this, including two runner-up efforts in Class 3 and 4 handicaps and, most recently, when catching the eye late on in a Class 2 handicap at this very same venue. Jockey Myla Coppins isn't a jockey I am familiar with, but she has started well as an apprentice, winning three times from seven runs. She claims a handy 5lb off my selections back for this contest.

Thecoffeepoddotco 3/1 – Chemsford 1.42

I've opted to take on Mad Dash in this contest, which could come back to bite me, but hopefully I've made the correct choice in taking her on. She does look like the type who will progress past this lot, and with a handy draw in stall one, she could be a tough nut to crack if ready to go after a 160-day absence. With that said, the absence is a slight worry and the yard themselves arn't exactly firing on all cylinders.

I opted to take a chance on Richard Hannons runner Thecoffeepoddotco. My selection carries top weight for this contest and is up against some interesting three-year-olds who have the potential to progress past her. Regardless, my selection has been running well of late, knocking on the door on more than one occasion last month when filling the runner-up spot twice.

I actually backed the winner in her most recent outing in Ed Walker's Tokyo Joe, who somehow battled back to nab my selection near the line by half a length. Thecoffeepoddotco is 0-11, but she definitely deserves to get her head in front at some point.

Time Tested 9/4 – Chelmsford 3.42

Michael Bell's Time Tested looks like a progressive type and on paper is a worthy favourite to get the job done under jockey Hector Crouch. I think it is worth mentioning the current form of jockey Hector Crouch, who is riding out of his skin at present, operating at a 28% S/R in the last 14 days, producing 7 wins from 25 rides, which included a treble on yesterday at Southwell.

My selection has won five times already from thirteen runs and arrives here after a short break on the back of a good victory at this very same venue back in October. Time Tested is up 4lb for that recent win and also takes a step up in grade, but I think he has all the tools to take it in his stride. Hector Crouch has already won on this horse twice, so knowing the jockey gets on well with the horse is also a bonus in my opinion.

Wilstar 6/4 – Ayr 1.00

Sean Bowen has a handful of good rides at Ayr on Friday, and I'll be extremely surprised if he walks away empty-handed.

My final selection for Friday's Lucky 15 bet is another short-sided one, but I think if Wilstar can bounce back after a recent wind op, then surely he should take all the beating.

Wilstar is seemingly highly thought of by trainer Olly Murphy, and you can understand why when you watch back on his bumper win at Perth last April. Wilstar flopped at Newbury when sent of favourite for a maiden hurdle contest at Newbury in November of last year. The contest itself was won by the Hobbs & White-trained Captain Hugo, who has won numerous times since and is up to an OR of 129.

I'll admit, it is a risk backing him at such a short price, as we are hoping the recent wind op has done the trick, which sometimes it doesn't. We are also backing a horse on the back of two months off the track, but Olly Murphy is no mug, and I think he will have Wilstar ready to go this time around in the hope he can get back to something of what we saw at Perth last year.

Given the prices are a tad short on some selections, a straight win Lucky 15 bet will be advised this time around.
