Golf Betting Tips from The Caddy

The DP World Tour continues in the Middle East before a break, with this week's Qatar Masters at Doha Golf Club, Doha, Qatar.

The 132-field, with the top 65 including ties making the weekend, will all be competing for a share of the $2.5M prize purse.

The winner collects the Qatar Masters title and a winning cheque for $425,000. Doha Golf Club will be playing 7,475 yards long this week.

It’s a par 72 Desert track that has more than a links feel and will require power along with good GIR figures. Sami Valimaki returns to defend the title he won around here just a few months ago in October. His winning scorecard read 270, -18.

The weather forecasts sunny and warm conditions for the most part, with some cloudy intervals and showers. Breezes will peak at around 15mph.

This event will be screened live on Sky Sports for those in the UK, with live coverage starting at 5.30am on Thursday morning.

So let’s move on with this week's Qatar Masters betting tips.

Sebastian Soderberg at 28/1 EW Boylesports 1-8 places

For my first and main selection at Doha Golf Club, I’m siding with the Swede again this week, Sebastian Soderberg at 28/1 EW Boylesports 1-8 places.

He never let us down last week at the Bahrain Championship, finishing T6th for full Each Way returns, so I’m more than willing to keep the faith this week. Sebastian Soderberg has started his 2024 campaign with a couple of impressive Top 10 efforts. T6th last weekend in Bahrain can be backed up with T9th the previous week at the Ras al Khaimah Championship.

I mentioned in my preview last week that it’s hard to believe that the 33-year-old Swede had only won once on the DPWT, with that being way back in 2019. He’s ranked 12th on the DPWT for Stroke Average, and this desert track with a links feel should suit his game.

Remember, he finished 5th at the Alfred Dunhill just a few months back, played across three of the toughest links courses in Scotland. That could well be a good indicator, along with the two recent Top 10 finishes at the same number of attempts.

The price for Sebastian Soderberg is better this week than it was last and completely baffles me, especially considering he finished inside the place money again last weekend. I’m not complaining; this is a terrific price for a player who, trust me, will be competing and challenging for the Qatar Masters title on the final back nine on Sunday afternoon.

Daniel Hillier at 40/1 EW Boylesports 1-8 places

For my next best selection, I’m going to single out Daniel Hillier at 40/1 EW Boylesports 1-8 places. The 25-year-old Kiwi kid ticks lots of boxes in Doha this week and has started the year well with a T23rd place at the Ras al Khaimah Championship.

He won his maiden DPWT title at the British Masters just a few months back, and I’m sure many more will follow from his success at The Belfry. Daniel Hillier finished inside the Top 20 here in October with a T16th effort, and the swift return could produce better results this time around. With eight Top 20 finishes throughout 2023 and with half of those being inside the Top 10, including the W at The Belfry, another could be on its way this weekend for the Kiwi Kid.

Pablo Larrazabal at 40/1 EW PaddyPower 1-7 places

For my final pick in the Middle East before a short break on the DP World Tour, I’m going to recommend Pablo Larrazabal at 40/1 EW PaddyPower 1-7 places.

The veteran Spaniard at 40 years old always seems to enjoy his golf in the desert, and with nine DPWT titles already safely in the bag, it’s about time Pablo hit double digits. He must be buzzing with confidence, having started the year with two Top 20 efforts. T20th at the Dubai Invitational can be backed up with an impressive T4th finish at the Dubai Desert Classic. The last time Pablo played this event and venue was in 2022, finishing inside the Top 10 again in T5th place.

He went one better in 2018 with a T4th effort, and when this event was held at the Education Course in 2020, it was yet another Top 10 for the man from Barcelona. Pablo Larrazabal could make his class shine in the Doha sun with another W this weekend; that’ll be double digits if it happens.
