After making it five winners from my last six BOTD columns in Norway on Sunday, Tuesday’s Football Bet of the Day sees me switch my attention back to the World Cup, and I’ve highlighted a goals-based selection in one of the ties.
⚽️ USA vs Belgium
🏆 World Cup
⏰ Tuesday 7 July, 01:00
Co-hosts the USA will look to reach the quarter-finals of the World Cup as they take on Belgium at Seattle Stadium in the early hours of Tuesday morning in what promises to be an entertaining tie.
The USA have been impressive so far this tournament, with Mauricio Pochettino’s side topping Group D after winning both of their opening two matches against Paraguay and Australia.
They lost a dead rubber against Turkiye in their final group match, but bounced back with a 2-0 victory over Bosnia & Herzegovina in the Round of 32 despite playing the final half an hour with 10 men.
Red-hot Monaco forward Florian Balogun had given the Stars and Stripes the lead on the stroke of half-time before being sent off, but ex-Rangers loanee Malik Tillman sealed the victory for the co-hosts with a free-kick.
Belgium are arguably the luckiest team still in the tournament, as despite drawing their opening two matches in Group G against Egypt and Iran, Rudi Garcia’s men still managed to finish top on goal difference thanks to a 5-1 thrashing of Egypt.
It looked as if the Red Devils were heading home as they trailed Senegal by two goals to nil after 85 minutes.
However, two goals in the space of three minutes by record-goalscorer Romelu Lukaku and then Youri Tielemans took the game to extra time – with the first of those goals helping land last Wednesday’s BOTD – before the Aston Villa midfielder clinched the tie from the penalty spot.

Bet of the Day
Goals should be on the cards at Seattle here, given both sides are far stronger offensively than defensively, with Both Teams to Score landing three (75%) of Belgium’s matches at the tournament – with the last two also going Over 2.5 Goals.
The USA have scored 2+ goals in all four of their matches, only keeping clean sheets against Australia and Bosnia & Herzegovina, who are fairly limited going forward.
These two met in a friendly at the end of March, with the Red Devils running out 5-2 winners – and whilst I don’t expect to see as many goals as that – I do think we will see at least three, with both teams contributing despite the co-hosts missing striker Florian Balogun through suspension.
- Both Teams to Score & Over 2.5 Goals
