Football Bet of the Day

After making it back-to-back winners in Baku on Wednesday, Thursday’s Football Bet of the Day sees me focus on the first legs of the Europa League playoff ties, and I’ve highlighted a goals-based selection in one of the fixtures.

⚽️ Celtic vs VfB Stuttgart

🇪🇺 Europa League

⏰ Thursday 19 February, 20:00

Celtic welcome Bundesliga high-flyers Stuttgart to Celtic Park on Thursday night in the first leg of their Europa League playoff tie in a fixture that appeals to me for goals.

Martin O’Neill’s hosts have scored 13 goals across their opening eight Europa League contests this campaign, with nine (69%) of them coming across their last four matches.

The Hoops have failed to score in just two of their league phase matches – notching on multiple occasions in three of their past four and four of their previous five – and I fancy them to breach a Stuttgart backline that has kept just two clean sheets in the league phase, shipping multiple goals in the last two.

Sebastien Hoeness’s visitors have scored 15 goals across their eight league phase matches this campaign, with 13 (87%) of them coming across their last five continental clashes.

Die Roten have struck multiple goals in five (63%) of their league phase matches – including in four of their past five – and will be confident of breaching a Hoops backline that has failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their eight matches in this competition this term, shipping two or more goals in each of their last three and five of their past seven.

Bet of the Day

The Hoops’ eight Europa League fixtures this campaign have averaged an eye-catching 3.50 goals per game, with Over 2.5 Goals landing in each of their last six.

What’s more, three of Stuttgart’s last four Europa League fixtures have produced at least three strikes, and given both teams’ records at either end of the pitch, I’m expecting a high-scoring encounter with both getting on the scoresheet.
