⚽️ Barcelona vs Newcastle United (1-1 Aggregate)

🇪🇺 Champions League

⏰ Wednesday 18 March, 17:45

Barcelona welcome Newcastle United to the Camp Nou on Wednesday night in the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie, in a fixture that I’m keen to get the hosts on side.

Barcelona were fortunate in the first leg at St James’ Park last week as they required a stoppage-time Lamine Yamal penalty to escape Tyneside with a draw.

Hansi Flick’s hosts have now won just one of their previous four Champions League clashes on their travels, but they are a different animal at home, where they have won 18 of their opening 19 fixtures on home soil in all competitions this season (W18-D0-L1), with only PSG avoiding defeat.

The Blaugrana defeated Sevilla 5-2 in front of their supporters on Sunday to maintain their four-point lead at the top of the La Liga table.

Newcastle bounced back from that late disappointment in the first leg by going to Stamford Bridge on Saturday and defeating Chelsea by one goal to nil.

That result has revived the Magpies’ hopes of finishing in the Champions League places, with that victory moving them up to ninth in the Premier League table, seven points behind Liverpool in fifth.

Bet of the Day

Newcastle can count themselves unfortunate to draw the first leg at St James’ Park last week, and I feel that could come back to haunt them against a Barcelona side that has been near-faultless at home this season.

Over 2.5 Goals has paid out in 18/19 (95%) of Barca’s home matches in all competitions this campaign – and given the same has landed in 4/5 (80%) of Newcastle’s away fixtures in this competition – I like the look of a home win featuring three or more goals.
