In this article, we have provided our Fantasy Premier League tips & predictions ahead of Gameweek 8 of the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game.
Premier League football is back this weekend, as FPL managers stress over making transfers, playing chips and deciding who to captain for Gameweek 8. Here are our latest FPL tips that should hopefully help make all of those informed decisions…
Our Fantasy Premier League tips
FPL gives out points based on player performances, which can be both positive and negative. It can range from a player scoring a goal (positions are given more points than others, for example a defender will gain six points for scoring a goal as opposed to four for a forward) or being shown a yellow card (-1pt), as well as many other metrics.
Who to have as FPL captain
In Gameweek 8, if you own him, Erling Haaland seems like the most obvious captain choice, with Manchester City travel to struggling Wolves. However, for those FPL managers who do not own Haaland or want to pick a cheaper differential captain, Bukayo Saka could also be a viable option as Arsenal travel to AFC Bournemouth.
Selection | Market-best price |
---|---|
Bukayo Saka to score anytime |
2/1 |
Bukayo Saka to score first |
6/1 |
Bukayo Saka to score 2+ |
11/1 |
Bukayo Saka to score hat-trick |
90/1 |
Should the triple-captain chip be used?
Assuming that Haaland is the most viable captain choice in Gameweek 8, using the triple-captain chip on him could be tempting, especially given the fact that Wolves are bottom of the table without a win all season. However, we would advise, if it has not been used already, to use the chip in a double gameweek, where teams play more than one fixture and therefore give more of a chance of a big points haul for the captain.
Who is likely to get booked?
Cole Palmer is currently the second-most owned player in FPL at the time of writing, but has picked up three yellow cards so far this season. This should come as a warning to all of those FPL managers who own the Chelsea star, as two more bookings will result in a one-game suspension.
The Blues travel to table-toppers Liverpool in Gameweek 8, in a match that could see plenty of frustration for Palmer and his teammates.
Market-best odds on Cole Palmer to be booked: 3/1
Which defender is most likely to score?
Gabriel Magalhaes already boasts two goals for Arsenal so far in the 2024/25 campaign, the joint-most for defenders. The Gunners will be favourites to beat Bournemouth, and Gabriel's aerial ability is a weapon that they have used from set pieces plenty of times before in the past.
Market-best odds on Gabriel Magalhaes to score anytime: 17/2
Our top three cheap in-form players
Brennan Johnson
At just £6.6m at the time of writing, Brennan Johnson is at an excellent price for FPL managers. He is the joint-second most in-form player in the game, and with West Ham United visiting Tottenham Hotspur in Gameweek 8, the Welsh winger has plenty of points potential.
James Justin
James Justin only costs £4.6m in FPL, and is a great defender to have in the squad, as managers will not be pressured into starting him every week at his price. However, we would recommend starting him this week if owned, as Southampton away is a fixture with more points potential for the Leicester City man.
Morgan Rogers
Morgan Rogers has steadily risen in price since FPL managers gathered that he is a regular starter for Aston Villa playing high up the pitch. Even so, £5.3m for a midfielder with his points potential is somewhat of a bargain, and a trip to Fulham provides another chance for a sizeable points haul.
