Last weekend produced two winners from three selections, providing a solid return before the domestic schedule pauses for the international break.
The reduced fixture list leaves a smaller betting card, with attention focused on League One and League Two. Cheltenham Town welcome Chesterfield, Fleetwood Town meet Rochdale, while Plymouth Argyle face Burton Albion at Home Park.
Fewer matches mean fewer opportunities, so the emphasis is firmly on quality rather than quantity. Recent performances, underlying numbers and relevant home and away records have all been assessed to identify the strongest options from the available programme.
Cheltenham Town vs Chesterfield
Two sides separated by one league point meet at Whaddon Road, but their underlying performances show a much wider gap. Cheltenham have collected 12 points from seven matches, one more than Chesterfield, despite ranking well below the visitors across the main chance measures.
Chesterfield lead League Two with 13.22 xPTS and average a division-high 2.07 xG. They have allowed 1.29 xGA per game, giving them a 62% xG ratio. Cheltenham have recorded 8.68 xPTS, with 1.34 xG and 1.62 xGA. Their 45% ratio places them among the weaker teams in the division.
The venue splits strengthen the away case. Cheltenham average 1.15 xG at home while conceding chances worth 2.07 xGA. Chesterfield produce 1.86 xG per away match and have taken six points from three trips.
Last weekend provided further evidence. Chesterfield beat York City 2-0 after generating 2.22 xG from 26 shots and eight efforts on target. York managed 0.36 xG and failed to test the goalkeeper. Cheltenham drew 1-1 at Colchester, producing 1.56 xG from 12 attempts.
Cheltenham have scored in every league game, so Chesterfield are unlikely to control the match without pressure. Their own defensive record includes two clean sheets, while their attacking volume offers the clearest route to victory.
Odds of 6/5 imply a 45.5% chance of an away win. Chesterfield's xPTS advantage, stronger chance creation and recent control support a higher figure.

Fleetwood Town vs Rochdale
Highbury has staged three tight league matches this season, with Fleetwood scoring three goals and conceding once. Rochdale arrive after a 2-0 victory over Oldham, but the performance behind the result supports another low total rather than an attacking improvement.
Rochdale scored twice from 0.61 xG, seven shots and two efforts on target. Oldham generated 2.08 xG and created five big chances. The scoreline flattered Rochdale, who remain one of League Two's weakest attacking sides.
Their away record is the main reason for taking under 2.5 goals. Rochdale have failed to score on all three trips, averaging 0.64 xG, 5.3 shots inside the penalty area and 0.3 big chances. Two of those matches stayed below the line.
Every Fleetwood home fixture has finished under 2.5 goals. They average one goal scored and 0.33 conceded there, while their defensive process is supported by 0.84 xGA. Two clean sheets from three provide further evidence of their ability to restrict opponents at Highbury.
Fleetwood's 3-1 defeat at Barnet last weekend looks less relevant to this market. Barnet lead the division for actual goals and generated 2.79 xG. Rochdale present a far weaker attacking test, particularly away from home.
Five of the six relevant venue matches have produced fewer than three goals. My model gives the under close to a 64% chance, compared with the 50% implied by even money. Fleetwood winning 1-0 or 2-0 and a 1-1 draw all fit the evidence.
- Best bet: Under 2.5 goals at 10/11 with Skybet
Plymouth Argyle vs Burton Albion
Plymouth return to Home Park after producing their strongest attacking display, while Burton travel south with defensive concerns and little evidence of a reliable away threat. The matchup supports Plymouth giving up a 0.75-goal start on the Asian handicap.
Argyle won 4-2 at Blackpool last weekend after creating 2.37 xG from 24 attempts. Nine shots tested the goalkeeper and six qualified as big chances. Blackpool generated only 0.72 xG, showing the result reflected Plymouth's control.
Burton drew 2-2 with Mansfield, but their two goals came from 0.63 xG. Mansfield recorded 1.86 xG, five shots on target and three big chances. Burton escaped with a point despite producing the weaker performance.
The relevant venue figures favour the hosts. Plymouth have won two of their three home games, scored six goals and kept two clean sheets. They allow 1.04 xGA per match at Home Park.
Burton average 0.59 xG away while conceding 1.69 xGA. Their three trips have produced one big chance in total, and they are yet to keep an away clean sheet. All three matches contained at least three goals, largely because Burton allowed their opponents regular opportunities.
Plymouth also hold a 4.33 to 2.15 home-and-away xPTS advantage across the relevant splits. The handicap offers some protection at 3/4. A one-goal home victory delivers half profit and half the stake back, while a win by two or more goals returns the full bet.
