Sunday’s Football Tips: Crunch time for Motherwell and Partick Thistle as they bid to avoid an early exit in the Scottish League Cup

THERE'S one final group game to play in the Scottish League Cup today and it should be a cracker as Motherwell host Partick Thistle.

Both teams were heavy favourites to qualify from a group that also included League One side Montrose plus Clyde and Edinburgh City from the bottom tier.

But the Jags have left themselves with a mountain to climb after crashing to a shock 3-2 defeat at home to the Bully Wee in midweek.

That allowed Montrose to jump above them with a win at Clyde yesterday so Kris Doolan's men need to get a win at Fir Park to reach the knockout stages.

Motherwell still aren't home and hosed either as a defeat today would send them crashing out.

So it has the makings of an intriguing game as both teams bid to avoid an early exit from the tournament.

Motherwell v Partick Thistle Top Betting Tips

Motherwell are Betfred's 7/10 favourites and probably should just edge it with home advantage. But Partick Thistle have plenty of firepower and I fancy them to score at Fir Park.

The odds on BTTS are poor at 8/15 but combining that with a Motherwell win boosts the price to 15/8. The Steelmen are also 5/4 to score in both halves.

Moses Ebiye was a prolific scorer for Well in pre-season and opened his competitive account in their 3-1 win over Clyde. The striker is 11/8 for anytime scorer today and that looks a decent price.

United States v Germany Top Tips

There's a clash of the titans in the women's football tournament at the Olympics tonight as the USA take on Germany.

Former Chelsea boss Emma Hayes has been charged with delivering a fifth gold medal for the Yanks and got off to a good start by masterminding a 3-0 win over Zambia.

But the Germans will be a tougher nut to crack and they also started with a 3-0 victory against a stronger Australian side.

Both sides are out to make amends for a poor World Cup campaign and it should be a tight game.

The half-time draw looks good at 23/20 while combining BTTS and over 2.5 goals pays 11/10 in a bet builder with Betfred.

Mallory Swanson scored twice in America's opener so could be worth a punt at 9/4 with Bet365 for another goal today.

Westerlo v Cercle Brugge Top Tips

The Belgian league is back underway and Cercle Brugge face a tricky opener on the road at Westerlo after playing in Scotland on Thursday night in Europa League qualifying.

I wasn't very impressed by Cercle in that 1-1 draw with Kilmarnock and they were rather fortunate to head home with a defeat.

Killie's dreadful plastic pitch was a factor in that but they could be a little vulnerable for their Pro League opener after a game that saw the ball fly through the air every couple of seconds.

Westerlo are 9/5 outsiders and could be worth a punt for the victory, while backing them to win either half pays 9/10.

Under 2.5 goals could also be worth a shout as opening games can often bit a bit cagey.
