With most of the action in the Bundesliga taking place on Saturday, Sunday always offers two matches that are no less important, especially at the start of the season when everyone is keen to get off to a strong start.

To kick off the day, we have a match between Hamburger and Mainz, both of whom will be looking for their first win. Later, Eintracht Frankfurt host Augsburg, who will be motivated to win their first two matches for the first time in six years.

Keep reading below for our expert tips and predictions for the two Bundesliga matches on Sunday.

Today’s Bundesliga betting tips & predictions

Hamburger vs. Mainz (2:30pm)

We can’t say we were surprised by Hamburger’s defeat in the first round, given that they were away to Borussia Dortmund. However, Hamburger have not lost their first two matches of the season in the top flight since 2012/13.

Mainz put in a poor performance against newly promoted Paderborn, the surprise being that they failed to score a single goal. That is likely to change in this match, however, as the 05ers are in decent form, having not lost any of their last six away matches in the Bundesliga, although this run includes matches from last season.

Hamburger are on course to equal their club record for the most consecutive Bundesliga matches in which they have conceded a goal. HSV have conceded in 15 consecutive matches and I can’t see that changing, as Mainz are certainly the stronger side at the moment.

Eintracht Frankfurt vs. Augsburg (4:30pm)

Eintracht Frankfurt’s opening match was certainly a memorable one, as they first conceded a goal, then went 3–1 up, and finally allowed Union to equalise, making it 3–3.

This showed that Eintracht have not yet sorted out the defensive problems they had last season and it looks as though they are set for another high-scoring match. Which is good news for Augsburg, who recorded a perfect 3–0 win in the opening round and will certainly come out fired up in search of their best start in six years.

That’s why I reckon we’ll see a high-scoring match here too, even though this fixture doesn’t always treat us to plenty of goals.
