SlipsTips shares a selection ahead of Auxerre’s clash with Lille in Ligue 1 on Friday night.
Auxerre vs Lille (Friday, 20:00)
Both seeking to return to winning ways in Ligue 1, Auxerre and Lille square off at the the Stade de l'Abbe-Deschamps on Friday night.
Christophe Pelissier’s hosts are currently housed in ninth place in the French top-flight standings, however they do currently find themselves in the midst of a four-game winless run.
In contrast, Lille have avoided defeat in each of their last 12 matches in Ligue 1, though they will be disappointed to have drawn 1-1 with Nantes last weekend.
Bruno Genesio’s side head into this Friday night showdown as odds-on 10/11 favourites with Boylesports, however I’m going to bypass the 1×2 market and instead opt for an alternative angle of attack.
The 10/11 on offer with Betway for this contest to feature four or more cards holds plenty of appeal given the pair’s respective crime counts this season.
In fact, both Auxerre and Lille are among the most ill-disciplined sides in Ligue 1 at this stage this season.
The home team are receiving an average of 2.19 cards per-game when on league business this season, a tally topped by only three other sides in the division.
One of the three outfits that are posting a higher card per 90 average than that of Auxerre is Lille, whose current figure reads 2.56.
It’s also worth noting that three of Auxerre's last five home games in Ligue 1 have featured four or more cards, with two of those tussles generating exactly five bookings.
As for Lille, six of their eight French top-flight road trips this term have seen the referee reach for his pocket on four or more occasions, not to mention a red card has been flashed in each of Les Dogues’ last two away days.
While Gael Angoula is not the most attractive of match official appointments, he is averaging a shade under four cards per- game in Ligue 1 this season, covering the required 4+ booking line in four of the seven games he has taken charge of thus far.
With that in mind, coupled with the two teams aforementioned disciplinary records this season, four or more cards looks well within range on Friday night at a near even-money quote.
