SlipsTips is away for the next few days and has handed over the reins for today's bet builder, which focuses on the returning Swiss Super League and Thun's first fixture as defending champions.
Luzern vs Thun, Saturday (19:30)
FC Thun achieved something extraordinary, and the standard of the Swiss Super League is no factor that would diminish the significance of this achievement.
In May 2025, Thun secured promotion to the top flight, and in May 2026, they were crowned Swiss champions for the first time in their history.
The new season kicks off this weekend, and I can’t wait to see whether this achievement will be more akin to Leicester’s title-winning season a decade ago, or whether Thun will continue to dominate Swiss football in the long term.
They face Luzern in the opening round, a team they beat three times in their championship campaign. However, Die Leuchten appear to be in far better form at the start of the new season.
Both Teams To Score
The Swiss Super League has always been known for its high-scoring matches, and these two sides are no exception. All three of their meetings last season saw goals at both ends and a total of over 2.5 goals.
Thun dominated for most of the season but finished it dreadfully with four defeats and a draw. Their pre-season preparations have shown no sign of defensive improvement, as they conceded a goal in all four of their friendlies.
Luzern, meanwhile, finished the season in top form (W4, D1), and that form appears to be intact, given their strong performances in pre-season (W3, L1). They made several strong signings since the start of the year and currently look like dark horses for a European place ahead of the season’s start.
Over 8 Corners
Corners are another market I bet on regularly in the Swiss Super League, and in this fixture we have two teams that regularly win a bunch.
Last season, Luzern were second in the league for corners won at home, averaging 6.26 per match. Overall, their home matches had the highest average out of any team, averaging 11.05 per match.
Thun have similar statistics, having been the team to take the most corners over the 38-match season – an average of 5.82 per match.
And last but not least, all three H2Hs last season featured more than eight corners – 11, 14 and 16.
