The bookies thought France and England would be be battling it out in the World Cup Final but instead they find themselves in tonight's third/fourth-place play-off.
Les Bleus were heavy favourites against Spain in their semi-final but turned in their worst display of the tournament in a limp 2-0 defeat.
England looked set for their first global showpiece since 1966 when they went 1-0 up against Argentina but a late collapse saw them crash to a painful defeat.
Now they need to play in the game no team really wants to take part in and it will be interesting to see which of them has the most motivation.

One player who will be desperate to take part is Kylian Mbappe as he looks to win the Golden Boot for the second World Cup in a row.
The Frenchman is tied with Lionel Messi on eight goals and will be looking to get his nose in front before the Argentine takes to the field for tomorrow's final.
It would be funny if Didier Deschamps benched him after the Real Madrid star criticised his tactics in that loss to Spain but I'd imagine Mbappe will be in from the start.

Aberdeen are rebuilding under Stephen Robinson and play their first home game of the new campaign when Queen's Park come calling in the Scottish League Cup today.
The Dons kicked off the group stage by beating Brora Rangers 2-0 on the road, with striker Kevin Nisbet scoring both goals.
They didn't blow the Highland League side away but it was a steady display and that's what we should expect now that Robinson's at the helm.
He won this tournament with St Mirren last year and defensive solidity played a key role in that. Queen's Park are a step up from Brora but are still a league below the Dons so I fancy the home win to nil today at 6/4 with Bet365.
Aberdeen will want to put on a show for the Pittodrie crowd and the same firm offer a tempting evens on them scoring in each half.
Cove Rangers vs St Mirren
Holders St Mirren kicked off their League Cup campaign in style last weekend, winning 4-0 at Dumbarton to bring up one of our Super Singles.
Craig McLeish is trying to implement a more progressive style of play than Paisley predecessor Robinson and they were far too slick for the League Two Sons.
