Dundee vs Everton

, KO: 15:00 , Dens Park
Everton

Dundee will welcome Everton to Dens Park for a glamour pre-season friendly on Saturday afternoon.

Steven Pressley’s side will be looking to ramp up their preparations ahead of the Scottish Premiership season getting underway in a couple of weeks, with a daunting trip to Celtic Park awaiting them in their opening fixture.

The Dark Blues have already had a taste of competitive action, having played two of their four Scottish League Cup group stage matches.

Dundee twice came from behind to defeat Airdrie 4-2 last weekend before following that up with a thumping 5-0 victory away at Annan in midweek.

As for Everton, they have been back in pre-season training for around a week and this fixture will represent their first friendly ahead of the new campaign.

David Moyes’ side finished 13th in the Premier League last season and will be looking to improve on that by breaking into the top half this term.

Head to head: Just one previous meeting

Dundee and Everton will cross paths for just the second time ever on Saturday afternoon. The two teams met at this venue in a pre-season friendly back in 2015, with Everton emerging 2-0 victors on that occasion.

Players to watch: Hamilton already up and running

Ethan Hamilton was one of Dundee’s standout performers last season, and the midfielder has already picked up where he left off after finding the net in the Scottish League Cup win over Airdrie last weekend.

Everton striker Beto will provide a stern test for the Dundee defence, having scored 10 goals in 40 appearances across all competitions last season.

Predicted line-ups

Dundee lost a number of key players during the close season, including Cameron Congreve, Luke Graham and Tony Yogane. Fin Robertson is a doubt after suffering an injury against Airdrie last weekend, which ruled him out of the subsequent match against Annan.

The Toffees will head to Dens Park without some of their World Cup contingent, with Iliman Ndiaye and Jordan Pickford among those still unavailable.

Dundee: O’Hara; Wright, Astley, O. Bevan, Oosenbrugh; Besir, Westley, Bland, Jones; Reilly; Murray

Everton: Travers; O’Brien, Keane, Tarkowski, Aznou; Hackney, Garner; Dibling, Dewsbury-Hall, George; Beto

Anything else catch the eye?

Goals could be at a premium at Dens Park on Saturday, with both managers tending to favour a pragmatic approach.

That could bring a low-scoring Everton victory into consideration, although much will depend on the value available when the bookmakers release their odds.
