Round 1 produced few surprises in Serie A, with most of the favourites winning their matches. Let’s see what the next round of fixtures has in store for us.
Saturday’s action features four matches, with most teams looking for their first wins. Fiorentina and Monza suffered the two heaviest defeats in the opening round, and it is precisely these two sides who will be playing in the early kick-offs.

Fiorentina vs. Frosinone (5:30pm)
The season got off to a disastrous start for Fiorentina, who had looked in good form following their pre-season preparations.
However, AS Roma showed them that they still have a lot of work to do. Frosinone suffered a narrow defeat against Juventus and now travel to face La Viola, who beat them 5–1 the last time they met at this ground.
Fiorentina need to wake up, as they cannot afford another poor season, and points against the league’s newcomers are a must, especially at home.

Monza vs. Udinese (5:30pm)
Udinese were involved in the only draw of the first round, and this can still be regarded as a success, as they withstood the pressure from Como.
Monza, meanwhile, had the misfortune of playing their first match since returning to the top flight against the reigning champions, Inter Milan, and, as was entirely to be expected, suffered a heavy defeat.
I still feel that Udinese are not quite up to the required standard and will face just as many difficulties away at Monza. Six of the last seven matches between the two sides have seen goals at both ends, and I intend to back exactly that outcome here as well.

Sassuolo vs. Torino (5:30pm)
Sassuolo and Torino both lost by the same scoreline in the first round and will be looking for their first win when they face each other on Saturday.
Sassuolo suffered a 2-1 defeat away at Atalanta, whilst Torino lost at home to AC Milan. My conclusion from these two matches is that we can expect high-scoring games from Sassuolo and Torino, and this is certainly a good option here.
However, I see quite a bit of value in the ‘Over 2.5 Cards’ market for this match, and in my view, the line could easily have been set at over 3.5 or even over 4.5. These are two teams that always produce hard-fought matches, and although it’s early in the season, I expect there to be cards.

Juventus vs. Parma (7:45pm)
Juventus’s first home match is crucial because they need to set the standard for the season and turn the Allianz Stadium into a fortress once again, having dropped far too many points at home towards the end of last season.
Parma may well be a suitable opponent at this stage, following their disappointing defeat to Cagliari in the opening round. Juventus have won seven of their last 10 home matches against Parma, with their last defeat coming back in 2011.
I certainly don’t expect a high-scoring match, and Juventus are far from impressive in terms of efficiency and creativity in attack, but a 1–0 or 2–0 result sounds entirely plausible.
