Young Boys vs Manchester CityUEFA Champions League, KO: 20:00 Oct 25, 2023, Wankdorf Stadium
MANCHESTER CITY travel to Switzerland to take on Young Boys in the third round of games in the group stage as they look to defend their Champions League title.
Pep Guardiola's side have won both of their games in the group with a pair of 3-1 wins over Red Star Belgrade and RB Leipzig.
But on the home front, they were facing just about the closest they have ever come to anything approaching a crisis when they lost three domestic games in a row – two in the league at Wolves and, painfully for them, at Arsenal and a Carabao Cup loss at Newcastle United.
They got back to winning ways at the weekend although their 2-1 weekend victory over Brighton which returned them to winning ways was far from comfortable especially as Manuel Akanji was sent off.
Swiss champions Young Boys have collected one point from their two group games so far with a 2-2 draw in Serbia against Red Star, although they lost to RB Leipzig in the opening match.
Raphaël Wicky's side currently sit in second place in the Swiss Super League after a goalless draw with leaders FC Zurich at the weekend.
How the bookies view it
Manchester City are ridiculously short to win here at 1/6 in most places although Boylesport's will give you 2/11.
Recent head to heads
This will be the first ever meeting between the two clubs.
Players to watch
Former Rangers striker Cedric Itten has already netted seven goals this season and won an international recall with Switzerland. He was surprisingly only a sub at the weekend so should be fresh for this and is 11/2 to score anytime with bet365.
With Erling Haaland as short as 1/2 to score here, it's worth looking at alternatives and Julian Alvarez is 13/10 to net with bet365 after scoring his seventh goal of the season in the weekend win against Brighton.,
Anything else catch the eye?
Manchester City should be too strong here, but the hosts are being seriously disrespected by the layers. They are a competent outfit who are no mugs and have plenty of European experience.
City have won by three goals or more just twice this season and don't seem to be rattling in the goals as much this season.
Back Young Boys to keep this respectable with a two-goal start in the handicaps at 9/10 with bet365.
And it could also be worth YB keeping City relatively quiet on the scoring front. Back City to score under 2.5 goals themselves at 10/11 with UniBet.
