Sweden will be aiming to end Austria's unbeaten record in Group F of the European Championship qualifiers when both teams square off on Tuesday. There is little to separate both teams at the moment and they look set to cancel each other out.
It has not been a particularly smooth qualifying campaign for Sweden, who have claimed two wins and as many draws from four matches. They are currently third on the standings, four points off the pace and need a win to throw themselves back in the mix ahead of the final round of fixtures.
The Swedes were in rampant mood last time out as they thrashed Estonia 5-0 in their previous qualifying fixture. They had five different goalscorers with Alexander Isak and Viktor Gyokeres both on target.
Sweden will be relying on their record at Friends Arena, where they have won their last two matches, scoring nine goals. However, Janne Andersson’s men have already been beaten at home during these qualifiers, suffering a 3-0 defeat to Belgium in the early stages of the campaign.
Austria are having a fine qualifying campaign and are yet to taste defeat after four matches in Group F. They are currently level on 10 points with Belgium at the top of the table having claimed three wins and a draw so far.
The Austrians’ most recent competitive outing was the reverse fixture against Sweden back in June as late goals from Christophe Baumgartner gave them a 2-0 victory. They warmed up for Tuesday’s trip to Friends Arena with a 1-1 friendly draw with Moldova.
Overall, Austria have been in good form lately and are unbeaten in their last seven matches across all competitions. Rafael Rangnick’s men are also unbeaten in their last two away matches, a run that includes a 1-1 qualifying draw in Belgium.
