South Africa vs Tunisia

, KO: 17:00 Jan 24, 2024, Stade Amadou Gon Coulibaly
Tunisia

Tunisia are still seeking their first win at this year’s Africa Cup of Nations as they battle South Africa in their final Group E fixture. The South Africans are finally up and running in Cote D’Ivoire but might find it difficult getting past the desperate North Africans.

South Africa are finally up and running at the Africa Cup of Nations after claiming a 4-0 victory over Namibia in their previous fixture. Themba Zwane netted a first half brace while Percy Tau and Thapelo Maseko were also on target.

It was a solid return to winning ways for South Africa, who were beaten 2-0 by Mali in their opening fixture. Bafana Bafana are now second on the standings and while the dynamics in Group E means a draw on Wednesday might be good enough, they will target a win which could see them secure top spot.

The victory over Namibia also ended a three match winless run for South Africa, who did not have the best build up to the tournament. Having scored four last time out, they will be keen for a repeat of that attacking display on Wednesday.

Tunisia claimed their first point in Group E of the Africa Cup of Nations after battling to a 1-1 draw in their previous fixture. They fell behind early in the contest but hit back before the hour mark with Hamza Rafia netting the equaliser.

It has not been the best AFCON campaign for Tunisia, who are still seeking their first win in the tournament. They are currently bottom of Group E but can finish second if results go their way on Wednesday.

One positive for Tunisia is that the match-day one loss to Namibia is their only defeat in the last six matches across all competitions. In order to get their campaign back on track, they will need key players like Elyes Skhiri and Youssef Msakni to finally turn up in Cote D’Ivoire.

How the bookies view it

Tunisia have the upper hand among the bookies and are priced at 5/4 by Unibet to claim the win. A victory for South Africa is valued at 27/10 by Coral while Unibet is also offering odds of 27/10 for a draw.

Head to head

Tunisia have never lost to South Africa with two wins and a draw from three previous matches. The last meeting between both teams was an AFCON clash in 2008 which ended 3-1 in favour of the North Africans.

Players to watch

Themba Zwane could be worth keeping an eye on for South Africa after netting a brace in the win over Namibia. The forward is priced at 5/1 by bet365 to get on the score sheet on Wednesday.

Captain Youssef Msakni is the leader of the Tunisian team and has bailed them out of trouble many times in the past. The forward will be the one to watch on Wednesday and is priced at 10/3 by bet365 to find the net.
