Real Madrid are set to take one Alaves in La Liga on Tuesday, 24 September with the hosts looking to keep on the coattails of Barcelona in the title race.
Real Madrid haven't exactly started poorly and are unbeaten after six games but Barcelona's 100% winning start means they currently have a four-point advantage over their bitter rival.
Alaves, meanwhile, have also started well. They are currently on ten points from their opening six matches and will be feeling confident ahead of their trip to the Bernabeu.
How the bookies view it: Real Madrid are expected to win handsomely
Real Madrid have been finding their top form in recent weeks so it's no surprise that they are the odds-on favourites here. Betfred have priced a win for Real Madrid as short as 2/11 while a win for Alaves has been priced at 14/1. The draw, which would be a brilliant result for Alaves at the Bernabeu, has been priced at 6/1.
Recent head-to-head: Madrid dominance
Real Madrid usually make light work of the so-called ‘lesser' teams in La Liga and Alaves unfortunately fall into that bracket. Los Blancos have won their last five matches against Alaves, including a 5-0 win in this same fixture last season.
Alaves have had some recent joy against Real Madrid, and at the Bernabeu too. In November 2020, they ran out as 2-1 winners in a match played behind closed doors.
Players to watch: Hey Jude?
Jude Bellingham was the star of the show for Real Madrid for much of last season but things haven't started quite as well for the England midfielder this time around. The 21-year-old has only managed to play three games so far for Real Madrid this season thanks to an injury he picked up after their opener.
Bellingham scored 23 times for Real Madrid last season but he will almost certainly not reach those numbers this season due to a shift in how Carlo Ancelotti is setting the team up this time around.
Bellingham will now operate in a more traditional midfield role and be tasked with providing support to Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Jr and Rodrygo rather than being the main goalscoring outlet himself. How he takes to this new role remains to be seen but he certainly has all the qualities to make a success of it.
Bellingham was once again forced off in the last match against Espanyol but is still expected to be okay for this one.
Predicted line-ups
Real Madrid are set to be without Eduardo Camavinga, David Alaba, Brahim Diaz and Dani Ceballos for this one due to injury while Dani Carvajal is also a doubt. Alaves have a much cleaner bill of health with Jesus Owono the only injury absentee for the visitors.
Real Madrid: Courtois – Carvajal, Militao, Rudiger, Mendy – Tchouameni, Valverde, Bellingham – Endrick, Mbappe, Vinicius
Alaves: Sivera – Tenaglia, Abqar, Sedlar, Sanchez – Guevara, Jordan – Vicente, Stoichkov, Martin – Martinez
Anything else catch the eye?
Real Madrid have been flying in recent weeks and have won their last four matches by a margin of two goals. Real Madrid to win this one with a -1 handicap has been priced at 4/7 by Betfred.
