Newcastle United vs Burnley

, KO: 15:00 Dec 4, 2021, St James' Park
Burnley

IF Eddie Howe wasn't aware of what he's let himself in for before he took the Newcastle United job, then he sure will on Saturday if his side fail to end the most embarrassing stat in English football.

Newcastle were denied what would have been their first win of the season in any competition in their 16th time of asking on Tuesday night after Norwich found a late equaliser to sicken the faithful at St James' Park and end that horror run – a run where they have failed to win any of their last 14 Premier league matches.

In fairness to Howe and the Geordies they had to play almost the entire match with ten men after Ciaran Clark's moment of madness cost them.

But they now face another six-pointer against the club one place above them at the bottom of the table, Burnley, who have had almost as lamentable a season as Newcastle.

They have produced just one win all season and that was at home to Brentford. They were in midweek action against Wolves and gained a creditable goalless draw.

So it's must-not lose game for both sides really.

How the bookies view it

The home side are the favourites with Newcastle 39/29 with SBK. The draw is 5/2 with Mansion Bet and a first away win in the league for Burnley is 12/5 with bet365.

Recent head to heads

The sides have already met this season in the League Cup and Burnley eventually went through on penalties after a goalless draw as can be seen below.

You need to go back to 1976 for the last time Newcastle United lost a home match in 90 minutes to the Lancashire outfit.

Players to watch

Eddie Howe apologised to Scotland star Ryan Fraser after he had to sacrifice the winger after just 11 minutes because of the red card. The two have an excellent relationship and the former Aberdeen start pops up with plenty of goals too. He's 17/4 to score on Saturday with Unibet.

Maxwell Cornet is by far Burnley's most potent threat this season with five goals and he's 3/1 with bet365 to score at the weekend.

Anything else catch the eye?

Despite surrendering a late leveller, Newcastle played well for long spells against ten men on Tuesday and there's optimism Eddie Howe will be able to get it against a Burnley side who are also struggling too.

Burnley have one win in 13 Premier League matches too, so they are hardly coming into this with confidence either.

It could be another tight encounter with neither side daring to think about losing and that conservative approach could pay off by backing under 2.5 goals, like on Tuesday, with SBK's 13/14.

This match between Newcastle United and Burnley will be played on Dec 4, 2021 and kick off at 15:00. Check below for our tipsters best Newcastle United vs Burnley prediction. You may also visit our dedicated betting previews section for the most up to date previews.
