Netherlands vs Republic of Ireland

, KO: 19:45 Nov 18, 2023, Johan Cruyff Arena
Republic of Ireland

NETHERLANDS will look to book their tickets for Euro 2024 when they entertain the Republic of Ireland on Saturday night.

Ronald Koeman’s side picked up what could prove to be a priceless three points by battling to a 1-0 win away at Greece last month.

That triumph has put the Oranje level on points with the Greeks with a game in hand.

Back on home soil on matchday seven, the Dutch will look to seal their passage to next summer’s showpiece when they come up against the Republic of Ireland.

Having crashed to defeat in five of their seven Group B outings so far, Stephen Kenny’s side have been cut adrift with rock-bottom Gibraltar at the foot of the section.

Despite enduring a miserable qualifying campaign to date, the Boys in Green still have a slim chance of  being involved in the play-offs next March.

Outright Betting

Netherlands are red-hot 1/5 favourites with Bet 365 to bank the three points that would secure their spot at Euro 2024.

Republic of Ireland are as big as 18/1 (William Hill) to claim top honours in the Dutch capital while the draw is an unfancied 6/1 at UniBet.

Betting Angles

Netherlands are too short to side with at the above-mentioned price so I’ll go to the Bet Builder and combine Netherlands to Win, Under 4.5 Goals and Shane Duffy to commit a foul at even-money (PaddyPower).

While this is far from a vintage Dutch side, they are undoubtedly in greater need of the points and they should have too much class for the Republic of Ireland.

As such, I’ll back the Oranje to come out on top on Saturday night, but to bolster the odds, I’ll also go with a match featuring four goals or fewer.

Each of the Netherland’s four Group B victories have gone under the 4.5 goal barrier and another solid but unspectacular victory could be in store against Stephen Kenny’s side.

It’s also worth pointing out that each of Ireland's five defeats in qualifying have produced less than five match strikes, so there is plenty of scope for a repeat in Amsterdam this weekend.

To conclude the even-money (PaddyPower) Bet Builder, I’ll also back Shane Duffy to commit a minimum of one foul during this contest.

The Republic of Ireland defender was reprimanded twice during the reverse fixture and he also committed a couple of misdemeanours against lowly Gibraltar last time out.

Elsewhere, I’ll also take Cody Gakpo To Score or Assist at 5/6 with PaddyPower.

The Liverpool forward has notched in his last two starts for his country and he looks a lovely price to have goal involvement here against the Boys in Green.
