Buoyed by a historic victory on matchday two, Mozambique will head into the final round of the Africa Cup of Nations group stage with belief as they face Cameroon on Wednesday, knowing a top-two finish in Group F remains within reach.
The Mambas claimed their first-ever AFCON victory last Saturday, edging a five-goal thriller against Gabon. That result brought an end to a 16-match winless run across six campaigns at the continental championship.
The victory also halted a four-match sequence without a win in all competitions (D1, L3), which included a narrow opening defeat to defending champions Ivory Coast. Mozambique now sit third in Group F, just one point behind the leading pair.
A win would guarantee automatic qualification in what would be a landmark achievement for the nation, having exited at the group stage in every previous appearance. Even without maximum points, progression could still be possible as one of the best-ranked third-placed sides.
Cameroon, meanwhile, began their campaign with a 1-0 success over Gabon before sharing the points with Ivory Coast in their most recent outing. That draw means the Indomitable Lions have not managed successive victories since June, during a run of eight matches in which they have recorded three wins, three draws and two defeats.
Currently second in the group and level on four points with Ivory Coast at the summit, a win on Wednesday could see the five-time continental champions finish top of the pool, depending on results elsewhere, as they continue the pursuit of a first AFCON crown since 2017.

For Cameroon, Bryan Mbeumo will be keen to make a greater impact after a quieter display against Ivory Coast. The Manchester United forward did register an assist in the opener and carries a consistent threat in the final third.
