Livingston vs Hibernian

, KO: 15:00 May 19, 2024, Tony Macaroni Arena
Hibernian

Livingston end their six-year stint in the Premiership by hosting Hibs on Sunday in the final league game of a miserable season for both sides.

The West Lothian outfit have stank the league out this season with five wins all campaign. They were taken apart by Aberdeen in midweek when, after taking a shock lead, they quickly conceded five goals in the last hour hour.

Manager David Martindale admitted after the game half his players had already ‘mentally checked out' so read into that what you will.

Managerless Hibs handed two of their legends a proper send-off in midweek when they cruised past Motherwell in the final home appearances of Lewis Stevenson and Paul Hanlon.

It came just two days after they had binned yet another manager in Nick Montgomery and it would be very interesting to hear his thoughts about that performance by the same players who got him the sack.

But Hibs have had a hugely disappointing season and all eyes are on new sporting director Malky Mackay to see who will get the job next season.

How the bookies view it: Hibs being backed

Hibs have been backed from evens to 17/20 favourites to sign off with a win while the West Lothian side are 14/5. The draw is also 14/5.

Recent head to heads: Hibs have edged it this term

Hibs have won at both Easter Road and the Tony Macaroni Arena, but also crashed to a shock 3-2 defeat in Laith back in August.

They have won on their last two visits to Livongston having previously lost three in a row there.

Players to watch: Boyle back in form

Tete Yengi converted a penalty for Livingston at Aberdeen in midweek before they collapsed. He's netted a respectable six goals now for Livingston this season and is 3/1 to score on Sunday.

Martin Boyle has not maybe quite had the impact he has had previously, but he's still managed to score 14 goals for the season including a double against Motherwell in midweek. He is 15/8 to end the season in style to score anytime with bet365.

Probable line-ups

Livingston could be missing James Penrice, Bruce Anderson and Shaun Donnellan. Hibs are set to be without David Marshall, Elie Youan, Will Fish and Lewis Miller.

Livingston: George, Montano, Devlin, Pittman, Kelly, Brandon, Bradley, Nouble, Nottingham, Kelly, Yengi.

Hibs: Wollacott, Cadden, Bushiri, Hanlon, Obita, Triantis, Newell, Campbell, Boyle, Vente, Maolida

Anything else catch the eye?

It's hard to see Livingston putting up much of a fight here especially when their manager has already admitted they've chucked it.

It's a nothing match for them and half of them won't be at the club this season. Backing Hibs is a risky business usually, but they can produce performances – albeit maddingly inconsistently for their fans – and really have to be backed here.

They will surely want to make an impression on whoever is coming into the club under the watching eye of Mackay.

Livingston usually offer up so many chances to opposing teams and Hibs could easily rattle in a few goals in West Lothian. An away win and over 2.5 goals looks a decent shout at 7/4.
