Liverpool vs Crystal Palace

, KO: 15:00 , Anfield
Crystal Palace

Liverpool probably need just a couple more wins to nail down a top-five finish in the Premier League and will be confident of banking three points when Crystal Palace come to Anfield.

It has been a traumatic season for the champions, with the death of forward Diogo Jota in the summer followed by a nightmare autumn that saw Arne Slot's side lose nine times in 12 games.

That ended any hope of reclaiming their title and the Anfield giants will finish the campaign without any silverware after crashing out of the Champions League to PSG earlier this month.

But they should at least have another crack at Europe's elite next season, with Liverpool holding a five-point lead over sixth-placed Brighton with just five games to go.

Next up is a clash against a Crystal Palace side who will have one eye on their upcoming UEFA Conference League semi-final with Shakhtar Donetsk.

European exertions haven't had a big impact on Palace's domestic form of late, with Monday's stalemate at home to West Ham making it four Premier League games unbeaten.

But it would still be a surprise if Oliver Glasner's men emerged with three points at Anfield, especially if the Eagles boss rests some big hitters ahead of the clash with Shakhtar.

How the bookies view it: Liverpool red-hot favourites

Last week's Merseyside derby win should give Liverpool a confidence boost and they're just 1/2 with Ladbrokes for another victory. Crystal Palace are as big as 23/4 with BetMGM while the draw pays 4/1 at SpreadEx.

Recent head to head: Hex appeal for Palace

Crystal Palace have been a bogey team for Liverpool in the last couple of years, with the Anfield giants winning just once in the last six meetings. The Eagles strolled to a 3-0 EFL Cup win on their last visit to Merseyside against a second-string Reds side in October.

Players to watch: Will Isak bounce back?

Liverpool broke the British transfer record to sign Alexander Isak and their £125million investment has thus far yielded just three goals. But the Swede should now be close to full fitness after making his comeback from a serious injury earlier this month and is 7/5 at BetMGM for anytime scorer.

It will be interesting to see how strong a team Glasner's picks as he won't want to suffer any injuries ahead of the European encounter. Yeremy Pino has started the last two in the Premier League between Conference League fixtures and the playmaker is 5/2 at Bet365 to score or assist.

Probable line-ups

Slot will be missing goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili after the Georgian went off in the derby win last weekend. Freddie Woodman will have to deputise again. Hugo Ekitike, Conor Bradley and Wataru Endo miss out again while Joe Gomez is a doubt.

Crystal Palace look set to be without Adam Wharton, Cheick Doucoure, Evan Guessand and Eddie Nketiah again.

Liverpool: Woodman, Frimpong, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson, Mac Allister, Szoboszlai, Gravenberch, Salah, Wirtz, Isak.

Crystal Palace: Henderson, Munoz, Canvot, Lacroix, Richards, Sosa, Lerma, Hughes, Pino, Sarr, Strand-Larsen.

🔍 X-pert tip from The Betting Desk
Don't know your xG from your xP? We've got you covered with our data-led X-pert tip!

MFT's X-pert tip: Over 2.5 goals

Liverpool’s last eight shows 1.87 xG and 1.34 xGA, with 10 shots in the box per game, while Palace post 1.49 xG and 1.18 xGA. Combined totals reach 5.88 xG, showing consistent chance creation across both teams. Liverpool’s home attacking numbers remain strong, with 10.3 shots in the box in recent home matches, while Palace average seven shots in the box across the last eight.

Neither side fully suppresses opposition chances, which keeps games open. Palace have a decent record against Liverpool with Palace unbeaten in the last four meetings and finding the net six times over those four games. With both teams contributing to attacking phases and allowing entries into dangerous areas, the goal line is supported.

Anything else catch the eye?

It's only natural for Crystal Palace to look ahead to such a big European game so I'd imagine Liverpool should win this one quite comfortably.

Backing Slot's side at -1 in the handicap pays a decent 5/4 with 888Sport while Liverpool HT-FT pays 6/5 at William Hill.

Liverpool star Isak will be desperate to get back among the goals and should have a few cracks at goal. That make backing him for over 1.5 efforts on target another decent option at 29/10 with Ladbrokes.

None of the three previous meetings this season has hit double figures for corners so it could pay to back under 9.5 flag kicks here at 6/5 with BOYLESports.
