After three defeats in a row, Hamburg are back in the trenches and will hope to postpone their fallout towards the drop zone with a rare win over Top 3 contenders Borussia Dortmund.
Nine rounds were enough to show Hamburg’s limits and it is now almost clear they will be fighting for their place in the league until the end of the season. After the Red Shorts won seven points against other teams from the bottom of the table, they collapsed as soon as they met a real challenge.
Hamburg lost their last three Bundesliga fixtures while conceding seven goals. The team has the tied-worst attack in the league with just eight goals in nine rounds, which is a bad look ahead of a clash with one of the league’s finest.
Borussia Dortmund will want to put their sad trip to Manchester behind as soon as possible and try to enter the international break on a high. As nobody is likely to reach Bayern Munich this season, the real battle is for 2nd and BVB are already behind RB Leipzig, and cannot afford losing points to bottomside teams.
