Georgia vs Spain

, KO: 17:00 Sep 8, 2023, Boris Paitchadze Dinamo Aren
Spain

SPAIN will be looking to return to winning ways in Euro 2024 qualifying when they take on Georgia in Tbilisi on Friday evening.

Luis de la Fuente’s side hit the ground running with a 3-0 win over Norway before being stunned 2-0 by Scotland at Hampden Park.

La Roja bounced back from that setback by securing Nations League glory earlier this summer, but those commitments mean they are now having to play catch up in Group A.

As a result, the Spanish are occupying second-bottom spot in the section, though a win here would see them leapfrog their opponents.

Georgia kicked off their campaign with a 1-1 draw at home to Norway before earning a narrow 2-1 over Cyprus on matchday two.

Willy Sagnol’s side then suffered their first defeat of the campaign when losing 2-0 to Scotland, and they will need to be at their best if they are to avoid back-to-back losses when Spain come calling.

Outright Betting

Georgia famously beat Spain 1-0 in a friendly fixture back in 2016 but the same outcome here is as big as 11/1 (Bet 365) while the draw can be backed at chunky 5/1 (Bet 365).

Spain, who triumphed in both meetings between the pair during qualification for the 2022 World Cup, are odds-on 2/7 (PaddyPower) favourites.

Betting Angles

At the risk of stating the obvious, Spain are deserving and fair short-priced favourites here, so I'll head to the Bet Builder market with a view to getting the visitors onside.

Combining a Spain success alongside Georgia to receive Over 1.5 Cards will present us with a backable 4/5 play when making use of PaddyPower's Bet Builder feature.

With a nine-point gap to make up on section leader Scotland, albeit with two games in hand, Spain will know there is no room for error in the Georgian capital on Friday evening.

What's more, the Spanish will still be smarting after their aforementioned defeat against the Scots, not to mention another loss in this fixture is unthinkable for the three-time European champions.

While Georgia are notoriously a tough nut to crack on home turf, and posses more than enough talent to bloody Spain's nose, I suspect Luis de la Fuente’s side will grind out a solid if unspectacular win on Friday evening.

With the hosts expected to dictate the tempo of the game, I'll round off the 4/5 (PaddyPower) Bet Builder with Georgia to receive a minimum of two cards during this contest.

The Spanish have drawn a minimum of two cards from nine of their last 12 opponents in competitive competition and a repeat here should go close given that Willy Sangol's side are likely to find themselves defending for long periods.

This Bet Builder paid out in Spain's win over Norway, and the same combination clicked in Georgia's loss to Scotland, all of which adds to the appeal of supporting the same formula in Tbilisi on Friday evening.

This match between Georgia and Spain will be played on Sep 8, 2023 and kick off at 17:00. Check below for our tipsters best Georgia vs Spain prediction. You may also visit our dedicated betting previews section for the most up to date previews.
