Freiburg will take on Mainz in the Bundesliga on Sunday, 3 November with the hosts looking to build on their impressive start to the season.
Freiburg currently sit in fifth position in the Bundesliga table and a win here could see them move up to third if other results go their way.
Mainz, meanwhile, are currently in 13th but have won just one of their last four matches in the league so will be keen to get back to winning ways as soon as possible.
How the bookies view it: The hosts go in as favourites
Given their superiority in the league table, it's no surprise that Freiburg start this match as the favourites to win. Betfred have priced a home win at 7/10 while a victory for Mainz has been priced at 18/5. The draw, which would be a better result for the visitors in the grand scheme of things, has been priced at 3/1.
Recent head-to-head: Advantage Freiburg
Freiburg have a good record in recent matches against Mainz and they come into it in the midst of a six-match undefeated streak against them in all competitions. Interestingly, four of those six matches finished in draws which makes 3/1 look an excellent price on another draw happening on Sunday.
Mainz's last win over Freiburg came in March 2021 with their last win in Freiburg coming four months earlier.
Players to watch: Two evenly matches attacking forces
Although there are currently eight places and six points separating these two teams in the league table, their attacking stats are very similar. Mainz have scored 12 goals in the Bundesliga this season while Freiburg have scored 13, so it will be fascinating to see which side produces more goals on Sunday.
Freiburg's biggest attacking weapon this season has been Japan international, Ritsu Doan. The exciting right-winger has been electric down the flanks for Freiburg so far, scoring four goals and providing one assist in eight league appearances so far. He needs just three more goals to match his previous best in a Freiburg shirt.
Mainz, meanwhile, will be hoping that Joshua Burkadt is available. The former Germany u21 captain missed the cup clash with Bayern Munich in the week with a thigh problem but could return this weekend. If he does, he will be looking to add to the five league strikes that he has already netted this season.
Predicted line-ups
Freiburgare missing five players for this one with Jordy Makengo, Kenneth Schmidt, Merlin Rohl, Manuel Gulde and Daniel-Kofi Kyereh all injured. Mainz are sweating on the fitness of Burkadt but Mortiz Jenz, Nadiem Amiri, Nikolas Veratschnig and Andreas Hanche-Olsen are all certain to miss out.
Freiburg: Atubolu – Kubler, Lienhart, Rosenfelder, Gunter – Osterhage, Hofler – Doan, Drinkci, Grifo – Adamu
Mainz: Zentner – Kohr, Bell, Leitsch – Caci, Amiri, Kaishu, Mwene – Nebel, Lee – Burkadt
Anything else catch the eye?
The over 2.5 goal market looks appealing here. All of Freiburg's three most recent matches have produced more than two goals while the same can be said for four of Mainz's last seven Bundesliga outings. Over 2.5 goals to be scored on Sunday has been priced at 4/6.
