FC Twente vs Red Bull Salzburg

, KO: 18:00 Aug 13, 2024, De Grolsch Veste
Red Bull Salzburg

FC Twente and RB Salzburg reconvene for the second leg of their Champions League third round qualifier at De Grolsch Veste on Tuesday evening.

This tie remains in the balance after Salzburg drew first blood with a narrow 2-1 win in Austria last week.

The Red Bulls followed up on that victory with a 5-1 battering of BW Linz in the Austrian Bundesliga on Saturday.

Pep Lijnders side now swiftly turn their attention back to continental  matters when they take on Twente again on Tuesday.

Since falling to defeat in Salzburg last week, Joseph Oosting's side have earned a 2-1 win over NEC in their opening Eredivisie assignment of the season.

Twente will be looking to use that victory as a springboard for further success by overcoming RB Salzburg and securing progression to the play-off round.

How the bookies view it: Twente to strike back

FC Twente are 6/4 favourites on Bet 365 to win inside 90 minutes, though they are as big as 12/5 (Bet 365 ) to qualify.

A draw would be enough to send RB Salzburg through and that outcome can be backed at 23/10 (Bet 365) while the visitors are 17/10 (Bet 365) to emerge from De Grolsch Veste victorious.

Head to head: Second leg just the second ever meeting

Last week’s first leg was the first time that the two teams have crossed paths. The winner of this tie will play either Dynamo Kiev or Rangers in the playoff round, which gets underway next midweek.

Players to watch: Lammers to light the fire?

Sam Lammers struck in FC Twente’s 2-1 win over NEC on Saturday and the Dutch forward is a tempting 11/5 (Bet 365) to repeat the trick on Tuesday evening.

Maurits Kjaergaard scored both of RB Salzburg’s goals against Twente in last week’s 2-1 success in Austria. The Danish midfielder is as big as 5/1 on Bet 365 to make the net bulge again this midweek.

Predicted line-ups

The aforementioned Sam Lammers found himself on the substitutes bench last week but his weekend strike should see him get the nod for this week’s crunch second leg.

Midfielder Oscar Gloukh marked his return from the Olympics with a hat-trick at the weekend and is therefore expected to be named in RB Salzburg’s starting XI on Tuesday.

FC Twente: Unnerstall; Reeger, Hilgers, Bruns, Kuipers; Kjolo, Eiting; Rots, Steijn, Lammers; Van Wolfswinkel

RB Salzburg: Blaswich; Dedic, Baidoo, Blank, Terzic; Diambou; Gloukh , Kjaergaard; Daghim, Konate, Nene

Anything else catch the eye?

Given the state of play in this tie, the Over 2.75 Asian Goal line looks worth attacking at 5/6 on Bet 365.

This selection would deliver a half-stakes profit should exactly three goals be scored with a full winner paid-out if the game generates four or more match strikes.

This bet would have paid out in all four RB Salzburg's competitive matches this season so far, while the same selection would have also proven profitable in each of Twente opening two fixtures of the season.
