Derby vs Swansea

, KO: 20:00 Nov 27, 2024, Pride Park
Swansea

Derby County are set to take on Swansea City in the Championship on Wednesday, 27 November with both teams looking to move closer to the top six.

Derby are currently in 11th position in the league table but after back-to-back draws, they will be keen to get back to winning ways on Wednesday night.

Swansea suffered a gut-wrenching defeat to Leeds United at the weekend so they will also be extra motivated to pick up the three points at Pride Park.

How the bookies view it: A tough match to call

The bookies aren't sure which way this one is going to go which is fair considering the two teams are only separated by one point in the league table. A win for Derby County has been priced at 6/4 while a victory for Swansea has been priced slightly longer at 15/8. The draw, which wouldn't be considered a shock, has been priced at 23/10.

Recent head-to-head: Advantage Swansea

This is a fixture that has been kinder to Swansea in recent times with the Welsh outfit unbeaten in their last three matches against Derby. Two of those matches ended in victory but they haven't won at Pride Park since 2010. Derby County's last victory over Swansea came in 2020 when they ran out as 2-0 winners in front of their home fans.

Players to watch: Bianchini has earned a start

Florian Bianchini has been used predominantly as a super sub for Swansea City this season and proved his worth off the bench last time out, netting an equaliser in stoppage time against Leeds United.

Although that goal ultimately proved to be worthless as Leeds went straight up the other end and netted a winner, the Frenchman should have done enough to get a start at Pride Park on Wednesday night. The Swans have lacked a consistent goalscorer all season and the 23-year-old has the potential to be that man.

Derby are missing their top goalscorer, Jerry Yates, for this one which opens up a position in the forward line for someone else. Teenager, Dajaune Brown, has impressed at times this season and will have to shoulder the responsibility of being the focal point of the attack on Wednesday. How the 19-year-old copes with that pressure will be interesting to see.

Predicted line-ups

As mentioned, Yates misses out for Derby County as he is on loan from Swansea. The Rams also have five players out due to injury including defender, Callum Elder. Swansea have injury concerns of their own and could be without four players for this clash, including midfielder, Oliver Cooper, who has missed the last four games.

Derby County: Zetterstrom – Phillips, Nelson, Cashin – Adams, Thompson, Jackson, Osborn, Forsyth – Mendez-Laing, Brown

Swansea City: Vigouroux – Key, Cabango, Darling, Tymon – Franco, Grimes, Allen, Ronald – Bianchini, Cullen

Anything else catch the eye?

Swansea's 4-3 thriller with Leeds was an anomaly rather than the norm as the Swans are more typically involved in low-scoring affairs. Three of their four most recent matches prior to the Leeds clash produced fewer than three goals and under 2.5 goals to be scored on Wednesday has been priced at 4/6 by Betfred.
