Crystal Palace vs Leicester City

, KO: 15:00 Sep 14, 2024, Selhurst Park
Leicester City

Leicester City's Premier League survival hopes have been given a boost off the field but they need to start delivering on it now, starting with this trip to Crystal Palace.

The Foxes have seen their relegation odds shorten after dodging a points deduction for alleged financial breaches during their last campaign in the top flight.

But they still remain favourites for the drop along with Southampton after collecting just one point in their first three matches since winning promotion from the Championship.

A good draw at home to Spurs was followed by defeats to Fulham and Aston Villa, so Steve Cooper's side will be desperate to get back on track at Selhurst Park.

Crystal Palace were one of the form teams at the end of last season, with new boss Oliver Glasner getting them purring as they climbed up the table.

Despite fears of a summer exodus, they only ended up losing winger Michael Olise and defender Joachim Anderson, with England internationals Eberechi Eze and Marc Guehi staying put.

Palace started the new campaign badly with successive defeats but after a good point at Chelsea, Glasner will be looking for a win here to spark their season into life.

How the bookies view it: Eagles ready for take off

Betfred are banking on Crystal Palace getting their first Premier League win this season as they make the Eagles 3/5 favourites. Leicester City are 4/1 outsiders and even the draw is pretty big at 3/1.

Recent head to head: Foxes have their noses in front

There hasn't been much between these teams in recent years, with the last 10 meetings producing four Leicester City wins, three Crystal Palace victories and three draws. The Eagles edged a 2-1 win when the Foxes last came calling in April 2023, a result that helped condemn Leicester to the drop.

Players to watch: Refreshed Mateta will be a threat

Jean-Philippe Mateta enjoyed a welcome breather over the international break after getting little time off over the summer as he starred for France at the Olympics. The target man has yet to score in the Premier League this term but is a tempting 6/4 at Betfred to grab a goal here.

Leicester continue to rely on Jamie Vardy for goals and he will be their biggest threat at Selhurst Park. The veteran striker is 5/2 to grab his second of the season.

Probable teams

Key midfielder Adam Wharton is a doubt for Crystal Palace after fitness issues forced him to withdraw from England Under-21 duty. Jordan Ayew could start for Leicester against his old club but Odsonne Edouard can't do the same as he's only on loan from Palace. Patson Daka looks set to be sidelined again too.

Crystal Palace: Henderson, Richards, Guehi, Clyne, Munoz, Hughes, Lerma, Mitchell, Kamada, Eze, Mateta

Leicester City: Hermansen; Justin, Faes, Vestergaard, Kristiansen, Winks, Ndidi, Skipp, Ayew, Decordova-Reid, Vardy

Anything else catch the eye?

Crystal Palace's only clean sheet so far this season came against second-tier Norwich in the EFL Cup while Leicester have scored in all their games so far. That makes BTTS likely here, although the odds aren't great at just 8/11. Combining that with over 2.5 goals boosts the price to 21/20 in a Betfred bet builder.

Leicester City's loss to Villa, which brought up a bet for Slips Tips, was fiery as nine yellow cards were dished out. With both sides desperate for a win, this could be another busy day for the ref and over 42.5 booking points pays 5/6.

The odds are better for certain players going in the book, with Leicester new boy Oliver Skipp at 2/1 with Bet365 and Palace's Jefferson Lerma priced 7/4.
