Crystal Palace vs Fulham

, KO: 15:00 Sep 23, 2023, Selhurst Park
Fulham

Crystal Palace and Fulham square off in a London derby at Selhurst Park on Saturday with both teams looking to build some momentum. Both teams have shown flashes of quality this season but there is a sharpness about Palace at the moment which should give them the edge.

Crystal Palace will be left bitterly disappointed after throwing away the lead late on in their 3-1 defeat to Aston Villa last time out. They had struck just after the restart through Odsonne Edouard and looked to be headed for a win but suffered a late capitulation.

It has been a decent start to the season for Crystal Palace, who are just inside the top half of the standings after claiming two wins and a draw from five matches. The major problem for manager Roy Hodgson appears to be a lack of discipline at the back having failed to keep a clean sheet in their last four Premier League matches, conceding seven goals in that run.

Given the manner of their collapse at Villa Park, Crystal Palace will be determined to set things right in front of their fans. The Eagles can build on the 3-2 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers in their previous fixture at Selhurst Park.

Fulham were made to work hard by newly promoted Luton Town before claiming a 1-0 victory in their previous Premier League fixture. They often struggled to break down the Hatters’ defence with Carlos Vinicius’ effort midway through the second half proving the difference.

The Cottagers have made a similar start to Crystal Palace with two wins and a draw from five Premier League matches so far. While they have also struggled defensively with 10 goals conceded so far, Marco Silva’s men are not as prolific as their hosts with the likes of Willian and Raul Jimenez still waiting to get off the mark.

A problem for Fulham as they head to Selhurst Park is a poor record on their travels having failed to win away from home this season. They suffered a 5-1 defeat to champions Manchester City in their previous fixture on the road but will look to channel the performance in the 2-2 draw at Arsenal prior to that clash.

How the bookies view it

Crystal Palace have the upper hand among the bookies with a home win priced at 19/20 by Coral. A victory for Fulham is priced at 3/1 by Paddy Power while a draw is set at odds of 5/2 by BetVictor.

Head to head

Fulham have a 7-4 advantage with five draws from 16 previous matches with Crystal Palace. The Cottagers were unbeaten against Palace last season, picking up a 3-0 victory at Selhurst Park before both teams battled to a 2-2 draw in the reverse fixture back in May.

Players to watch

Odsonne Edouard is enjoying a fine start to the season and has found the net four times in five Premier League matches for Crystal Palace. The striker was also on target in the last meeting with Fulham and is priced at 2/1 by William Hill to maintain his scoring run.

Raul Jimenez is yet to get off the mark for Fulham this season but his performances have deserved a goal. The Mexican striker could take advantage of Crystal Palace’s defensive problems and is priced at 18/5 by William Hill to get on the score sheet.

Anything else catch the eye.

Crystal Palace and Fulham have been unconvincing at the back which means goals could be expected on Saturday. The last meeting produced over 3.5 goals, which is priced at 5/2 with bet365 while over 2.5 goals is valued at evens with BoyleSports.

There have been a few late showings in matches involving Crystal Palace this season, so the second half could be tipped to produce more goals at 11/10 with Paddy Power. Both teams could also be backed to score after the break at 5/2 with bet365.
