CHELSEA and Manchester City round off the Premier League weekend with a blockbuster showdown at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.
The big-spending Blues earned their most notable victory of the season so far when triumphing 4-1 at Tottenham on Monday night, in a manic London derby that brought up my Bet Builder.
That morale-boosting victory has moved Mauricio Pochettino’s men into the top-half of the table following an inconsistent start to the campaign.
While Chelsea will have taken huge confidence from that success against Spurs, they face an incredibly tall order this weekend when Man City come to town.
Pep Guardiola’s champions should be purring with confidence right now after reclaiming top spot in the Premier League following their 6-1 battering of Bournemouth last Saturday.
The Sky Blues have since swept aside Young Boys 3-0 in the Champions League, a result that has stamped their ticket to the round of 16 with two games to spare.
Outright Betting
Chelsea haven’t beaten Man City since triumphing in the 2021 Champions League final and the bookmakers’ odds suggest the wait will go on, with the Blues big outsiders at 4/1 (Bet 365) while a point a piece in west London is also deemed unlikely at 27/10 (Bet 365).
Manchester City are odds-on 8/11 (Bet 365) favourites as they set out to maintain their place at the top of the Premier League table ahead of the latest international break.
Betting Angles
Manchester City are, if anything, a fraction short from my liking here, so I’ll instead head to Bet 365’s Bet Builder and bundle up Man City Double Chance and Reece James to Commit Over 0.5 Fouls at 4/5 (Bet 365).
City appear to have found their groove again, having claimed top honours from each of their last five contests across all competitions, banging in 17 goals in the process.
While Chelsea are making steady progress under Mauricio Pochettino’s management, they are by no means the finished article, and that was evident in their 2-0 defeat at home to Brentford a fortnight ago.
What’s more, the Blues have only managed to bank maximum points against Luton in six top-flight outings at Stamford Bridge this term to date, with the capital club coming away empty-handed on three of those six occasions.
Therefore, it would take a gargantuan effort from Chelsea to topple the champions on Sunday, especially when you consider the fact that the Blues have bagged just three clean sheets across their opening 11 Premier League games of the season.
As such, I’ll back City to avoid defeat in west London, but to boost the 4/5 (Bet 365) Bet Builder I’ll also take Reece James to commit a minimum of one foul during this dust-up.
The Chelsea skipper was lucky to escape a first-half red card at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Monday night and he could be in for a tough afternoon on Sunday.
With James likely to be up against either Jack Grealish or Jeremy Doku, I’m more than happy to round off the 4/5 (Bet 365 ) Bet Builder by backing the Blues-right back to commit at least one foul during this Super Sunday showdown.
With all things considered, I’ll also back Man City to score two or more goals at 4/5 with William Hill.
This bet would have paid in six of the Citizens' last seven matches and they are certainly capable of making the bet bulge twice at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
