Celtic vs Aberdeen

, KO: 15:00 Nov 12, 2023, Celtic Park
Aberdeen

CELTIC and Aberdeen will both be out to banish European hangovers when they return to domestic action with an SPFL Premiership clash at Parkhead.

The Hoops suffered another dose of Champions League pain on Tuesday night as they were battered 6-0 by Atletico Madrid, with Alvaro Morata bringing up a scorer bet for me.

Brendan Rodgers' side were actually playing quite well before Daizen Maeda's controversial red card in the first half but were embarrassed after the break as Atletico ran riot.

After collecting just one point from four games, it looks like Celtic will finish bottom of their section but they can't afford to feel sorry for themselves when they resume their bid for a third successive Premiership crown.

Last weekend's 3-0 victory at Ross County motored them eight points clear of Rangers, albeit having played a game more, and Rodgers will be determined to keep their foot on the pedal.

Aberdeen could be a tough nut to crack but the Dons are also coming off the back of a draining midweek game in Europe and have had two fewer days to recover.

Despite claiming a creditable 2-2 draw with PAOK on Thursday night, busting my coupon in the process, Barry Robson's men saw their Europa Conference League hopes ended with two games still to play.

Juggling the demands of group stage football with their domestic commitments has been tricky for Aberdeen and they have won just three of their first 10 games in the Premiership.

But one of those victories came at Ibrox and if the Dons hit peak form then they could make things difficult for the champions at Celtic Park.

How the bookies view it

Aberdeen look a bit overpriced at 14/1 with Coral, although that price is perhaps understandable given they had an away game in Greece on Thursday. Celtic are tiny at 1/4 with Bet365 and the draw pays 6/1 at Betfair.

Recent head to head

Celtic have already beaten Aberdeen once this season, with the Hoops winning 3-1 at Pittodrie in just the second game of the Premiership campaign. That made it eight wins in a row against the Dons since a 1-1 draw at Pittodrie in 2021. You have to go back to 2018 for Aberdeen's last victory at Celtic Park, with Andy Considine scoring the only goal in the last game of that season.

Players to watch

The only positive Rodgers could take from the midweek mauling in Madrid was that he managed to get some star players off early to give them a breather, with Matt O'Riley and Luis Palma both substituted at the break. Honduran winger Palma has impressed since his summer arrival and his long-range shooting could be key in breaking down Aberdeen's five-man defence. He's 7/4 with BoyleSports for anytime scorer.

Bojan Miovski scored Aberdeen's goal in that defeat by Celtic earlier this season and also netted the winner last weekend to see off Hibs in the League Cup semi-final. The North Macedonia striker is 15/4 with Bet365 for another goal.

Anything else catch the eye?

We saw 18 corners when these sides faced off at Pittodrie and that market is always worth a look when either of the Old Firm are at home. Over 11 flag kicks pays 5/4 with Bet365 while over five first-half corners is 6/5 with the same firm.

This fixture can often get spicy, although we only saw two yellows when Celtic won at Pittodrie earlier this season. Aberdeen skipper Graeme Shinnie is usually in the thick of the battle and he's 8/5 with Bet365 to be carded.
