Celtic vs Aberdeen

, KO: 15:00 , Celtic Park
Aberdeen

Wilfried Nancy is under siege at Celtic and it's hard to see the Frenchman surviving if he makes it five defeats in a row when Aberdeen come calling in the SPFL Premiership.

Handing Nancy the reins just before a season-defining week looked like another potentially disastrous move from the under-fire Parkhead board.

Plenty of fans feared he would get off to a rocky start but nobody would have expected Nancy to lose his first four fixtures against Hearts, Roma, St Mirren and Dundee United.

Wednesday's 2-1 loss at Tannadice, which brought up two bets for me, summed up his reign as the misfiring attack wasted several good chances and Nancy's flimsy defence collapse under pressure.

Fans chanted for the manager to be sacked and it looked like he would indeed get the bullet but Nancy remains in charge for the visit of the Dons.

Aberdeen head into this game off the back of a demoralising 3-0 defeat away to Sparta Prague, with a bet landing for our man Greg as their Conference League campaign ended with a whimper.

That could have an effect on this game but Jimmy Thelin's men are in good domestic form, going seven games without defeat.

How the bookies view it: Hoops way too short at 1/3

Celtic haven't lost four games in a row since the 1970s and the bookies can't see them stumbling again, with Aberdeen as big as 17/2 at Betfred.

That looks way too generous based on recent Hoops displays and the champions don't deserve to be as short as 1/3. The draw could be a good option and it pays 5/1 at Bet365.

Recent head to head: Dismal for the Dons

Nancy can take some comfort from Celtic's recent record against the Dons. Aberdeen memorably floored the Hoops on penalties in last season's Scottish Cup Final but they haven't beaten them inside 90 minutes since 2018, a run of 32 games.

Players to watch: Heads-up for 20/1 Lazetic

Daizen Maeda scored an excellent goal at Tannadice in midweek but then somehow missed an open goal from point-blank range as his side chased a late leveller. The Japanese star is the only quality player in Celtic's injury-hit attack and is evens at Coral for anytime scorer.

Marko Lazetic came off the bench for Aberdeen in Prague and should get the nod up front here. The powerful Serbian will fancy his chances against Nancy's weak defence and looks a bit overpriced at 10/3 with Bet365 for a goal. He's also a whopping 20/1 with the same firm to score a header.

Probable line-ups

Nancy hasn't been helped by a lengthy injury list, with first-team stars Cameron Carter-Vickers, Alistair Johnston, Jota, Marcello Saracchi and Kelechi Iheanacho all sidelined.

Defenders Gavin Molloy and Kristers Tobers are still out for Aberdeen and Thelin will probably make changes to freshen things up.

Celtic: Schmeichel, Scales, Trusty, Ralston, McGregor, Engels, Hatate, Tierney, McCowan, Yang, Maeda.

Aberdeen: Mitov, Devlin, Knoester, Milne, Aouchiche, Polvara, Armstrong, Jensen, Keskinen, Lazetic, Karlsson.

Anything else catch the eye?

Celtic are so wide open under Nancy that we should see goals at both ends again. Combining BTTS and over 2.5 goals paid off for me in midweek and that bet pays 21/20 at Bet365 here.

Thelin will have seen how vulnerable Celtic have been at corners so will probably tell his players to play for set-pieces. That makes over 2.5 Dons corners worth a look at 4/5 with Bet365, while over 11.5 match corners pays 23/20 at Ladbrokes.
