BURNLEY will be desperate to drag themselves off the foot of the Premier League table when they take on West Ham United at Turf Moor on Saturday.
After storming to the Championship title in style last season, many expected the Clarets to make a seamless transition back into the top-flight with the slick attacking verve that served them so well in the second tier.
However, it has been a real baptism of fire for Vincent Kompany's side so far, with the Lancashire club losing 10 of their opening 12 league games of the season.
Last time out, rock-bottom Burnley crashed to a fifth successive league defeat when going down 3-1 at Arsenal.
Meanwhile, West Ham made a welcome return to winning ways before the international break by coming from behind to defeat Nottingham Forest 3-2.
That victory snapped a four-game winless run in the top-flight for David Moyes’ men and it has also propelled the east Londoners back into the top-half of the table.
Outright Betting
Burnley are 13/5 (PaddyPower) outsiders to bag what would be a maiden home win of the season while an all-square affair at Turf Moor has been priced up at 11/4 (Ladbrokes).
Despite losing each of their last three Premier League away matches, West Ham United make the trek north as 21/20 (Bet 365) favourites.
Betting Angles
West Ham are worthy favourites here, however I’m going to steer clear of the match betting and instead combine Both Teams to Score and Both Teams to Receive a Card at 10/11 with Bet 365.
While West Ham have made a reasonably strong start to the season, keeping clean sheets has been an issue.
David Moyes’ men have only managed to keep the back door shut in one of their opening 12 league games of the season, with BTTS banking in 10 of those contests.
Therefore, Burnley could land a blow when hosting the Hammers this weekend, though they could struggle to keep the capital club out at the other end of the park.
The Clarets’ rearguard have yet to record a clean sheet this season in the Premier League and that doesn’t bode well ahead of a visit from a West Ham side that fired a blank in just one of their 18 matches across all competitions this season.
With that in mind, I’ll back both teams to oblige at Turf Moor, but to bolster the odds, I’ll also go with each team to collect at least one card.
Both of these sides are averaging over two cards per-game in the Premier League this season, not to mention referee Sam Barrot is averaging a shade under four bookings per 90 in the top-flight this term.
