Burnley vs Watford

, KO: 19:30 Dec 15, 2021, Turf Moor
Watford

Burnley will be keen to end a recent run of draws when they host Watford in a midweek English Premier League fixture. The visitors appear to be struggling lately and Burnley will fancy their chances of claiming a much-needed win.

Burnley have spent much of the first half of the season in the relegation zone but will feel their performances deserve better than their current league position. They are two points from safety at the moment and can climb out of the bottom three with a win on Wednesday.

The Clarets head into Wednesday’s clash with just one defeat from their last six Premier League matches. However, four of those matches have ended in draws including a 0-0 scoreline against West Ham in their previous fixture.

Among the recent results for Burnley is a 1-1 draw with title chasing Chelsea. That performance along with the one against West Ham on Sunday will give them hope of an imminent turnaround in fortunes starting with Wednesday’s match against struggling Watford.

Watford looked to have turned a corner following the arrival of Claudio Ranieri, who led the team to impressive wins over Everton and Manchester United. However, the new manager bounce appears to be fading as they have lost their last four matches.

The Hornets suffered a 2-1 defeat at Brentford in their previous Premier League fixture with Emmanuel Dennis’ early effort cancelled out by the hosts. Their recent poor run means they are just two points above the bottom three and could slip into the relegation zone with a defeat on Tuesday.

One problem the new manager has been unable to solve is Watford’s leaky defence as they have kept just one clean sheet all season. They have also conceded 11 goals in their last four Premier League matches.

How the bookies view it

Burnley have the edge among the bookies at 22/19 with Vbet while a victory for Watford is priced at 5/2 by SBK. A draw is set at odds of 13/5 by betway.

Head to head

Burnley have the upper hand in this fixture and are unbeaten in five of the last six matches against Watford. They did the double over the Hornets during the 2019-20 Premier League season and claimed a 1-0 victory at Turf Moor.

Players to watch

Maxwell Cornet had gone off the boil lately but still remains the top scorer for Burnley with six goals. Given Watford’s shaky defence, the attacker can be tipped to get on the score sheet at 49/20 with Unibet.

Emmanuel Dennis has carried much of Watford’s attacking threat this season and has four goals in his last five matches. Unibet has the Nigerian forward at 3/1 to get on the score sheet on Wednesday.
