Brighton and Brentford both go into Sunday’s clash at the Amex chasing back-to-back Premier League wins.
After seeing their four-game winning run in the top flight come to an end with a 2-0 defeat at Liverpool a couple of weeks ago, Brighton bounced back in impressive fashion with a 1-0 win away at Manchester City last weekend.
That Etihad triumph lifted Fabian Hurzeler’s side into third place, just five points off the summit.
The Seagulls have since been back in Conference League action, claiming a narrow 1-0 win away at Getafe on Thursday night.
As for Brentford, they returned to winning ways last weekend with a 2-0 home win over Nottingham Forest.
That victory took Keith Andrews’ side up to sixth, and another win on Sunday would leave them just two points behind Brighton.
How the bookies view it: Another Seagulls success
Brighton have won three of their four Premier League home matches this season and are 17/20 favourites with bet365 to claim another victory on Sunday.
Brentford are 27/10 outsiders, while the draw has been priced up at 14/5.
Head to head: Advantage Albion
Brighton hold the upper hand in the overall head-to-head record, with 37 wins to Brentford’s 30, while the other 17 meetings have ended all square.
The Seagulls came out on top 2-1 in last season’s corresponding fixture at the Amex, with a repeat of that scoreline on Sunday priced at 17/2 on bet365.
Players to watch: Thiago to hit the target
Igor Thiago is without a doubt Brentford’s biggest danger man, and the Brazilian looks good value to hit the target at least once during this contest at 8/11 with bet365.
Pascal Gross has committed at least one foul in eight of his nine Premier League appearances for Brighton this season, so the 4/5 on offer for him to do so again here looks worth backing.
Predicted line-ups
Brighton boss Hurzeler is hopeful Ferdi Kadioglu will be fit for Sunday after the full-back missed Thursday’s win at Getafe, while Femi Azeez and Pascal Struijk are also doubts. Evan Ferguson, Kaoru Mitoma, Stefanos Tzimas and Zadok Yohanna remain sidelined.
Brentford came through their win over Nottingham Forest without picking up any new injuries, and Yehor Yarmoliuk is available again after serving a three-match ban. Josh Dasilva stepped up his comeback by playing for Brentford B on Monday, while Antoni Milambo, Fabio Carvalho and Rico Henry remain unavailable.
Brighton: Verbruggen; Costinha, Vuskovic, Dunk, Boscagli; Gross, Andres; Gomez, Ayari, De Cuyper; Kostoulas
Brentford: Kelleher; Kayode, Ajer, Van den Berg, Lewis-Potter; Janelt, Sangare, Jensen; Ouattara, Thiago, Schade
Anything else catch the eye?
Brighton are renowned for pressing aggressively, and that approach tends to see them pick up plenty of cards.
Indeed, the Seagulls have averaged 2.22 yellow cards per Premier League game this season, collecting multiple bookings in each of their four home matches.
At 4/5, Brighton to pick up two or more bookings looks an attractive option.
