Manchester United vs Aston Villa

, KO: 16:30 , Old Trafford
Aston Villa

Manchester United will look to follow up their European comeback in midweek as they welcome Aston Villa to Old Trafford on Super Sunday.

It looked as if it was going to be another tough night for Michael Carrick on Tuesday night, as they trailed free-scoring Roma 0-2 after just 17 minutes at Old Trafford in the Champions League.

However, a Bruno Fernandes penalty and a late Matheus Cunha brace completed an unlikely comeback for the Red Devils.

Whilst that result did put a halt to their nine-game winless run, United remain winless in each of their last seven Premier League outings, meaning they sit outside of the relegation zone on goal difference.

Aston Villa endured a tough 90 minutes in the Champions League on Tuesday night, losing 3-0 in Catalonia against Barcelona.

That result came three days after Unai Emery’s men dropped points in the Premier League, as they were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Fulham.

Nevertheless, that draw extended the Villans’ unbeaten run to five matches in the Premier League (W3-D2-L0), meaning they only sit four points adrift of the top four.

How the bookies view it: Manchester United favourites

Despite having just one Premier League win to their name this season, Manchester United are favourites, with bet365 pricing a home victory at 23/20.

Aston Villa are 11/5 to leave Old Trafford with all three points, whilst the draw is 13/5.

Head to head: United dominance

This is a fixture Manchester United have dominated in the Premier League, with the Red Devils winning 42 and losing just six of their meetings (W42-D14-L6).

United have been even more dominant at Old Trafford, winning 24 and losing just two of their 31 Premier League clashes with the Villans (W24-D5-L2).

Players to watch: Jackson to strike again?

Unai Emery appears to be getting the best out of Nicolas Jackson, with the Senegalese forward already having eight goals to his name for Aston Villa this season.

Three of those have come across his last two Premier League outings, and appeals at 7/4 at bet365 to Score Anytime at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Predicted line-ups:

Manchester United will miss the injured Manuel Ugarte, Carlos Baleba, Benjamin Sesko, as well as the suspended Lisandro Martinez, whilst Luke Shaw, Patrick Dorgu, Marcus Rashford and Amad Diallo are all doubts.

Aston Villa will be without the injured Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Amadou Onana, Matteo Ruggeri, as well as the suspended Marty Cash.

Manchester United: Lammens, Yoro, Maguire, Heaven, Dalot, Mainoo, Tielemans, Diallo, Fernandes, Cunha, Mbuemo

Aston Villa: Suzuki, Lindelof, Mings, Torres, Maatsen, Kamara, Gomes, McGinn, Buendia, Manzambi, Jackson

Anything else catch the eye?

It’s unclear whether that comeback win over Roma will prove to be a catalyst in terms of changing Manchester United’s form around, but in this moment in time, it’s hard to have complete trust in them despite Villa’s dismal record against the Red Devils.

Michael Carrick’s men remain a shambles defensively and with five of Aston Villa’s last six Premier League contests seeing goals at both ends, there’s a good chance we’ll see goals at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Both Teams to Score pays just 1/2, but combining it with Over 2.5 Goals boosts the price to a backable 4/5 at bet365.
