Alvaro Arbeloa's side drew 1-1 at Aston Villa last weekend, extending their recent unbeaten league run to three matches. Fulham have collected seven points during that period, although their latest performance deserved a better outcome. Nicholas Jackson put Villa ahead before an own goal brought the visitors level, with John McGinn also missing a penalty for the hosts.

Fulham registered 14 shots, five on target and four big chances at Villa Park, generating 2.86 xG. Those figures underline the attacking improvement which has not always translated into victories this season.

The Cottagers have struggled for consistency at Craven Cottage, winning just one of their opening four home league matches. They average 1.50 goals per game despite generating 2.13 xG, suggesting their finishing has fallen short of the opportunities created.

Their defensive performances have also contributed to disappointing results, with Fulham conceding 1.75 goals per home fixture. Nevertheless, they have scored in every league match on their own ground.

Newcastle suffered a 1-0 defeat against Everton on Monday, continuing a difficult period for Matthias Jaissle's side. The Magpies have struggled to establish consistency, particularly away from St James' Park.

They have won only one of four away league fixtures, conceding an average of 2.00 goals while allowing 1.68 xGA. Their attacking performances have been more encouraging, with Newcastle finding the net in all four matches on their travels.

Fulham's team news is relatively encouraging, with Gonzalo Garcia expected to lead the attack ahead of Joshua King, Oscar Bobb and Alex Iwobi.

Newcastle have several selection concerns. Jacob Ramsey is suspended, while Valentino Livramento is unavailable with a knock. Lewis Miley and Matias Fernandez-Pardo are doubtful, and Ewen Jaouen remains sidelined with a hamstring injury.

Jaissle is expected to retain his 4-2-3-1 formation, with Will Osula leading the attack and Harvey Barnes, Joe Willock and Anthony Elanga providing support.

How the bookies view it

Fulham are favourites at 11/10, giving them an implied probability of 47.6% to secure all three points. Newcastle are available at 13/5, representing a 27.8% implied probability, while the draw is priced at 11/4, equivalent to 26.7%.

The bookmakers expect goals, with over 2.5 available at 4/6 and under 2.5 at 5/4. Both teams to score, Yes, is priced at 4/7, carrying an implied probability of 63.6%. No is offered at 6/4.

Head to head: Fulham hold the slight edge

Fulham won the most recent meeting between these sides, recording a 2-0 victory at Craven Cottage in May 2026. Newcastle had previously enjoyed consecutive successes, winning 2-1 in their Premier League encounter in October 2025 before repeating that scoreline in December's League Cup meeting.

The Cottagers also enjoyed success during the 2024-25 campaign, winning 2-1 at St James' Park in February after recording a 3-1 home victory the previous September. Fulham have therefore won three of the last five competitive meetings, with Newcastle taking the other two.

Four of those encounters produced at least three goals, while both sides scored in the same number. Recent meetings have generally been competitive, although Fulham's latest home success provides encouragement ahead of Saturday's encounter.

Player to watch: Alex Iwobi to run the midfield for Fulham

Alex Iwobi has been an important creative influence for Fulham this season, providing attacking support from midfield. The Nigerian has accumulated 3.02 xA and created 22 chances, demonstrating his importance in supplying opportunities for teammates.

Iwobi has also registered 16 shots and scored once, giving him a threat beyond his creative contributions. He is expected to operate from the left of Fulham's attacking midfield, moving into central areas to combine with King and Garcia.

Newcastle's defensive record on the road suggests Iwobi should find opportunities to influence proceedings, particularly when Fulham establish possession around the visitors' penalty area.

His movement between the lines and ability to deliver passes into dangerous positions should play an important role in the home side's attacking approach.

Predicted lineups

Fulham (4-2-3-1): Leno, Castagne, Affengruber, Bassey, Robinson, Berge, Charles, Bobb, King, Iwobi, Garcia.

Newcastle United (4-2-3-1): Hornicek, Dedic, Schar, Burn, Hall, Gonzalez, Joelinton, Elanga, Willock, Barnes, Osula.

Anything else catch the eye?

Fulham's home attacking figures provide a strong statistical argument for backing them to beat Newcastle at Craven Cottage.

The Cottagers average 2.13 xG per home match but have scored only 1.50 goals per game. That 0.63 difference suggests their finishing has been below the level of chances created. They have scored in all four home fixtures, although their return of one victory highlights the need to convert attacking superiority into results.

Newcastle's away defensive performances strengthen the case. The Magpies concede 2.00 goals per away match and allow 1.68 xGA, while Fulham's attacking output is 0.45 xG higher than Newcastle's average away xGA.

Newcastle have also won only one of four away league matches, a 25% success rate. Their defensive vulnerability gives Fulham opportunities to control the contest and create chances.

The concern is Fulham's own defensive record. They concede 1.75 goals per home fixture, while Newcastle have scored in all four away matches. The visitors therefore possess a genuine attacking threat. Fulham's recent league form provides further encouragement, with seven points collected from their last three matches. Their attacking performance against Aston Villa also demonstrated their ability to create high-quality opportunities away from Craven Cottage.

The hosts have the stronger underlying attacking numbers for this particular matchup, while Newcastle's defensive weaknesses on the road offer a clear opportunity to turn those chances into goals.
