Bayern Munich will continue their Bundesliga season this weekend when they take on Freiburg at the Allianz Arena.
The German giants are on a mission to reclaim their Bundesliga crown this season following Bayer Leverkusen's shock triumph last season and got off to the best possible start with a 3-2 win over Wolfsburg.
Their opponents on Sunday, Freiburg, also started with a win – beating Stuttgart 2-1 a home so this won't just be a walk in the park for Vincent Kompany's men.
How the bookies view it: Bayern go in as heavy favourites
Bayern Munich may suffered more than one shock defeat in the Bundesliga last season but that hasn't stopped the bookies from pricing them incredibly short at the start of this season. A Bayern Munich victory has been priced at 1/5 by Betfred on Sunday while a win for Freiburg has been priced at 11/1. The draw, which would be a bad result for the hosts, has been priced at 13/2.
Recent head-to-head: Advantage Bayern
Freiburg fans should avoid looking at their recent record against Bayern Munich if they are looking for inspiration ahead of kick-off on Sunday. They haven't managed to win a league match against the Bavarians in nine years while they have never won a league away match against them.
One crumb of comfort they can take is that they did manage to win at the Allianz Arena in the German Cup quarter-finals in April 2023.
Players to watch: All eyes on Olise
Bayern Munich didn't have a huge summer in terms of incomings but then again, nothing was going to compare to last summer when they broke their transfer record to bring Harry Kane to the club.
The biggest piece of business they did once again involved in the shopping in the Premier League, though, through the acquisition of Michael Olise. The Frenchman has shone for Crystal Palace in England for several seasons now but the jump up in expectation and quality to Bayern is obvious.
Olise made his debut for his new club last weekend in the 3-2 win over Wolfsburg and although he failed to create or score a goal, he showed plenty of promise and has got Bayern fans excited about his home debut this weekend.
His link-up play with the likes of Kane and Musiala is only going to improve with time but he will want to put on a show for his new supporters on Sunday.
Predicted line-ups
Vincent Kompany is already contending with a couple of niggling injuries but his main concern ahead of this one will the fitness of Leroy Sane after the German missed Bayern's opener. Freiburg will be without at least four players, including Kenneth Schmidt who is serving a suspension.
Bayern Munich: Neuer – Boey, Kim, Upamecano, Davies – Palhinha, Kimmich – Olise, Musiala, Gnabry – Kane
Freiburg: Muller – Kubler, Rosenfelder, Lienhart, Gunter – Osterhage, Eggestein – Doan, Rohl, Grifo – Adamu
Anything else catch the eye?
This is a fixture that usually produces goals and with Bayern looking to play an expansive style of play under Vincent Kompany, expect even more on Sunday. A total of 21 goals have been scored across the last six matches between the two teams. Over 3.5 goals to be scored on Sunday is priced at 8/13.
