Barcelona vs Celta Vigo

, KO: 20:30 May 10, 2022, Camp Nou
Celta Vigo

Having already secured UEFA Champions League football for next season, Barcelona continue their La Liga campaign with a midweek clash at home to Celta Vigo. The visitors have been a bogey team to Barcelona in recent meetings but the Catalans are in good form and should have enough quality to come out on top.

Barcelona confirmed Champions League qualification with a 2-1 victory at Real Betis in their previous La Liga fixture. Ansu Fati came off the bench to score the opener in the second half while Jordi Alba netted the winner deep into injury time.

The victory over Real Betis also means Barcelona have won three of their last four La Liga matches. Among those results is a 2-1 victory over Mallorca in their previous fixture at Camp Nou.

Celta Vigo were also victorious in their previous fixture as they triumphed 4-0 over Mallorca. Thiago Galhardo opened the scoring early in the first half while Iago Asia’s netted a brace with Franco Cervi also on target.

That was only the second win in eight matches for Celta Vigo, who have been erratic in recent weeks. However, it was enough to boost their chances of a top half finish as they now sit one point behind 10th placed Valencia.

The problem for Celta Vigo heading into Tuesday’s clash is a poor record on their recent travels. Eduardo Coudet’s men have claimed just one win from their last nine away matches, suffering five defeats in that run.

How the bookies view it

Barcelona are considered overwhelming favourites among the bookies with a home win priced at 4/11 by Unibet. A victory for Celta Vigo is valued at 38/5 by SBK, who are also offering odds of 23/5 for a draw.

Recent head to head

Celta Vigo have caused Barcelona some problems in the past and are unbeaten in the last two meetings, including a 3-3 draw in the reverse fixture back November. However, the Catalans have lost just once in the last six meetings at Camp Nou, claiming five wins in that run.

Players to watch

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang appears to have come off the boil lately, failing to score in his last three matches. However, with nine goals in 14 appearances for the Catalans, the striker could be backed to end his drought on Tuesday at 10/11 with Unibet.

Celta Vigo have a potent attack of their own, particularly with Iago Aspas, who has 17 La Liga goals this season. The attacker also netted a brace in the reverse fixture and is priced at 23/10 by SBK to find the net on Tuesday.

Anything else catch the eye?

Barcelona and Celta Vigo have quality in attack and having produced over 3.5 goals in the reverse fixture, a repeat could be considered at 39/29 by SBK. Both teams have been on target before the break in the last two meetings at Camp Nou and Tuesday’s clash could be tipped to follow a similar pattern at 10/3 with bet365.

Given the minimal odds on offer for a straight Barcelona victory, a win and over 3.5 goals should offer more value at 15/8 with Paddy Power.
