The title race in Serie A this season has been unpredictable, with AC Milan and AS Roma being among the unexpected contenders. Winning here is mandatory for both sides, as a stalemate would only benefit Napoli.
If you take a look at AC Milan’s recent matches, you’ll see they had the worst possible schedule, facing all title contenders and Serie A giants. Only AS Roma and Inter remain, and the Rossoneri have so far been flawless.
They beat Napoli and Fiorentina, and got draws with Juventus and Atalanta. In fact, Milan have not lost in nine matches, but the one negative about their performance is the lack of goals. The Rossoneri have only scored more than two goals on one occasion this season, but this doesn’t sound as worrying because Roma have been even less active.
The Wolves have the best defence in the league but are also the lowest-scoring side in the upper half of the table. With just 10 goals in nine rounds, Roma have scored just enough to win games, while their defence has been watertight.
Gian Piero Gasperini’s playstyle is rather old school, but clearly effective, as Roma have had their best start in over a decade. And in fact, no other Serie A team has won more points than the Wolves in 2025.
How the bookies view it: The Rossoneri to better the Giallorossi
Bookmakers gave AC Milan the nod with the odds, making them serious favourites against AS Roma at 6/5. Meanwhile, you can back the Wolves at 27/10 and it wouldn’t be a bad pick, given their phenomenal away form. As for the draw, it is available at 2/1.
Recent head-to-head: Roma finally beat Milan in a Serie A clash
We saw a bit of everything last season – both teams won a H2H each and there was also a draw between them. And this was Roma’s best performance against Milan in over six years. The Wolves beat them 3-1 last time, which was their first H2H win in Serie A since 2019.
Players to watch: Fofana and Mancini will be under pressure
As two of the lowest-scoring teams in the upper half of the table, finding a suitable player pick from Milan and Roma is a near-impossible task. We expect to see goals from both sides but we can’t decide who’s scoring them.
Instead, we plan to focus on bookings. The H2Hs between Milan and Roma are always intense and we usually see plenty of yellow and sometimes red cards.
As for the actual picks, we like Milan’s Youssouf Fofana, who got booked against both Fiorentina and Juventus. And we like Roma’s Gianluca Mancini, who will probably be under the most pressure from Milan’s frontline.
Probable line-ups
AC Milan: Maignan, De Winter, Gabbia, Pavlovic, Saelemaekers, Fofana, Modric, Ricci, Estupinan, Nkunku, Leao
AS Roma: Svilar, Hermoso, Mancini, Ndicka, Celik, Cristante, Kone, Wesley, Soule, Pellegrini, Dybala
Anything else catch the eye?
It is interesting how every match between these teams seems to follow a similar pattern, with the only variable being the winner. For example, 13 of the last 15 H2Hs featured goals from both teams. No matter the form or the location, Milan and Roma will score goals against each other.
And we expect to see it here too, at least to get us to 1-1. We are against betting on a winner in this fixture, as both sides have played incredible football this season. Instead, we like Betano’s Over 4.5 cards at 7/10.
We saw 5+ cards in four of the last five H2Hs, with the most recent one featuring five yellows and two direct reds.
