Hibernian vs Rangers
, KO: 12:00 Sep 20, 2020, Easter RoadWILL Hibs became the first team to finally breach the Rangers defence?
Seven games in, the Ibrox side have yet to concede a Scottish Premiership goal, breaking a 114-year record in the process, and sit top of the table with 19 points.
Progress to the Europa League third qualifying round was also secured on Thursday night when Steven Gerrard's men eased past Lincoln Red Imps of Gibraltar 5-0.
Sunday's trip to Easter Road presents a considerable step up in opposition at a ground where Rangers have had their fair share of struggles in recent years.
Last season's 3-0 victory was just a second win in the last seven visits to Hibs, who are snapping at Rangers' heels this term under Jack Ross.
The Easter Road side currently sit third, just three points adrift, and have an excellent defensive record of their own with four clean sheets in their last five games.
Hibs have been efficient rather than sparkling so far, but Ross – who took charge last November – has instilled a steel that has been sorely lacking at the club in recent years.
Both sides enjoyed routine wins last weekend, with Hibs easing to a 3-0 success at coronavirus-affected St Mirren while Rangers thumped Dundee United 4-0.
How do the bookies view it?
Hibs – winless against Rangers in the last eight meetings – are 7-1 at bet365 for the victory that would take them level on points at the top.
The visitors are 1-2 at William Hill while the draw is 10-3 with BetVictor.
Betting angles
Hibs have home advantage and the onus is on them to have a real go at this Rangers side who could be a tad jaded after their Euro assignment in Gibraltar on Thursday.
In the likes of Martin Boyle, Kevin Nisbet and Christian Doidge the Easter Road men have the pace and finishing prowess to cause Rangers problems.
They could well end the Ibrox men's long run without conceding – with both teams to score priced at 19-20 at bet365 – but I prefer the 2-3 match goals market with the same bookie at even money.
Hibs centre-back Ryan Porteous has started against Rangers three times in the last three seasons and been carded on each occasion, including a straight red at Easter Road last term.
The 21-year-old has played every minute of Hibs' games this campaign, but remains a work in progress and is 2-1 with bet365 to make it three in a row in the crime count.
