During the summer, the Spanish top flight became the destination for one of the world’s biggest goal-scoring superstars.
Now we’re edging towards Christmas, it seems as though only a huge personal disaster will stop one runaway leader from ending up as the 2024/25 ‘Trofeo Pichichi’ winner.

Robert Lewandowski – 2/11
Barcelona's Lewandowski is the man to beat in the La Liga top scorer race this season, averaging more than a goal per game. Given the nature of Barcelona's attacking style, he is unlikely to slow up in front of goal. He's already going to be tough to beat in this race.
Betting Tip: Lewandowski to score a hat-trick vs Leganes – 11/1
Barca dropped vital points against Betis in their most recent league outing. However, they flaunted their true destructive potential at the start of December, flattening Mallorca 5-1. Although Lewandowski didn’t score on that occasion, he’s never down for long after a blank and netted in the Betis clash.
He should thrive against a Leganes team that is winless on the road since ending a four-year absence from the Spanish top-flight.
Raphinha – 13/2
Barcelona's Raphinha has come to life this season with his form in front of goal, despite not having been a prolific scorer throughout his career. His improved consistency as a scoring threat has moved him past double figures and in the hunt to catch teammate Lewandowski. He's now moved ahead of Mbappe in the market.
Betting Tip: Barcelona to win by 4+ goals vs Leganes – 11/4
When the Catalans win, they win big, with their last nine victories prior to their Champions League clash with Dortmund all seeing a handicap-beating scoreline. The most recent of those saw Raphinha score twice, and we richly fancy him to get on the scoresheet again. He’s 4/1 to net first.
Their H2H record against Leganes speaks volumes too, even if it does comprise just nine games (W8, L1). A total of 26 goals for Barca across those clashes equates to an average of 2.89 goals per game.
Kylian Mbappe – 10/1
Mbappe has not had the prolific season that many would have predicted on his arrival at Real Madrid. December could be his time to shine with Vinicius Jr out of the picture through injury, but the Frenchman has a lot of work to do to challenge for top scorer honours because of his slow start.
Betting Tip: Mbappe to score 2+ goals – 11/2
At least temporarily, Real Madrid will leapfrog Barcelona this Saturday if they emerge victorious away to Rayo Vallecano. Their away league form has been decent of late, with three wins in four, with the most recent bringing a 3-0 success against Girona. Each of those three victories saw Mbappe score first or last, and he’s available at a market average of 10/3 to open or close the scoring again this weekend.
The more adventurous amongst us might be tempted by his current odds of netting a brace or more. He’s only managed to net multiple times in one previous La Liga game – and that was back in early September – but there’s the ever-persisting sense that he will one day click into gear and revert to the goal machine that he was at PSG.
Ante Budimir – 10/1
Osasuna's Ante Budimir has come on strongly since the end of September, and a hat-trick against Villarreal in late November put him on the list of top scorer contenders. He tallied 17 goals in 33 La Liga appearances last season, but can the outsider do enough to finish as top scorer this term?
Betting Tip: Budimir to score first vs Espanyol – 5/1
Budimir has been Osasuna’s first goalscorer in each of their previous four matches. He can be backed to net the opener at around 5/1.
Our La Liga top scorer prediction
Everyone was looking for Mbappe to run away with the top goalscorer accolade. But it has been the Lewandowski show with no one else getting a look in. His return last season of 19 goals was his lowest tally in a campaign since the 2014/15 Bundesliga, but he’s now the focal point of a much more attack-minded Barcelona side.
